Studio One 7.2 - Discussion Thread

Did you open your Studio One 7 entry? "This product comes with..." and there it is (at least for me).
There it is. Thanks! Gregor should have covered that in his video. Not the least bit intuitive. The activation process was even more convoluted. Sheesh.

Try "Other" in your list.
Gottfried

Thanks, found it.

Of course it doesn't want to install...

But then when I checked in Studio One there was a notification to install it.

Which I did, but it didn't seem to be installed. Then noticed another notification icon, and saw the I needed to restart Studio One. Ahhh. OK.

Now it's installed!

But it makes no sound... maybe no default patch loaded??? How do you change patches? It's not very intuitive...

I like this update!!! :D For my workflow the changes to the auto-punch system and scrolling options are great.

Thanks to the Presonus team!!

The Installer Option under the SubZero Bass tab in my Products just showed up. It was not there for about 26 hours after I first learned of this update yesterday. Go Figure! Presonus must have some reason for doing that.

That's a usual and expected behavior when using efficiency cores.

Follow this thread for more details:

TL;DR:

Efficiency cores are not intended for real-time processing such as audio streams. There is a high risk of dropouts when used in a lower buffering scenario. They're designed for energy efficiency, not maximum performance or low-latency tasks. This is one of the obvious reasons why many DAWs don't use e-cores at all. Using efficiency cores in large buffer scenarios could be an option, but problems could arise if background applications are open and/or system performance system performance approaches its limits.
Sorry for the fundamental question, but if using Efficiency Cores is an unorthodox and risky approach for a DAW, why is it enabled by default in v7.2? Surely it should be disabled unless a user explicitly (and knowingly) chooses otherwise.
I appreciate you guys giving us more control over processing, but it seems like the default is now less stable than before, which is going to put off a number of users, new & old alike.

I have found though experimentation there is a sweet spot in terms of buffer settings and DP settings and using the checked efficiency cores option. Using the smaller CPU cores window helps with this. In my situation I am using a combination of software synths and audio tracks with plugins etc.. I found going too high in the buffer settings worsened things and the same applied to the DP settings. I get a great result with buffers at 128 and DP set to minimum. Also don't assume a certain setting will apply for every session. Try tweaking the settings for individual sessions.

Choose a buffer setting and try different DP settings and watch the smaller CPU core window. Do this at 128, 256, and say 512. I found I landed in a sweet spot where I got a very heavy session to play every time with efficiency core option checked. Without it checked the audio broke up etc.. I don't think it is a big concern though either as the performance cores alone on the Mac Studio will handle just about everything you care to throw at it. But I am happy to say I believe it works because it can get you just over the line in terms of getting a big complex session to play well before you start rendering things down etc...

I should mention I am still on Sonoma and everything is just working super smooth on that for me. You do not have to update your Mac OS to the latest version. Be careful that an OS update may cause some plugins to not function well until they are updated by the designers and them not playing well may cause grief in your setup too. You can safely stay one or two OS systems back on the Mac.

I'm looking forward to installing S1 v7.2. I'm at a good place to not having to wait a few months. I believe the auto center/left scrolling will be a nice addition. I'm also eager to try the bass sample player. I'm glad the newest version looks like a good update. And with that 30% off summer sale, I'm trying to get my buddy who just bought a MAC Studio M4 with 64 gig ram, to spring for Studio One perpetual for a mere $139. He's a Logic user.
Cheers, kids. 👍

Hi Louie,

if you found something please open a new thread for especially this issue.
The discussion thread about a release version meight be not the best area for this.

Thanks!
Ari

The first version of Stem Separation in Apple's Logic Pro didn't get users excited either. With last week's update, things have improved significantly. And Presonus had announced that they could add improved AI models at any time. They have now done so for the first time. Let's see...

It's just such a niche task, particularly for users of such a powerhouse DAW as S1; Ableton users might seem like a more ideal target market, for instance, or some DAW that sees the lion's share of EDM/LOOPmaking dudes who want to yoink some samples out of someone else's full MIX.

It's not even genre-dependent though, my only real use for stem-sep. as a producer currently is making vocal rehearsal/karaoke tracks, it's just not something that's high on my list of concerns personally.

Essentially if you're super concerned about stem separation you just buy an app that specializes in it, and if you're more concerned about producing music with a proper powerhouse DAW a la Studio One you probably won't need to use it very often.

Also it's very tough to have to compete against Steinberg in this arena, as Spectralayers is essentially at the very head of the pack for this kind of thing and it's super simple to de-mix in another app and simply drag the resulting stem into S1.

The Post/Pre roll counts are OK, I guess?

Practically speaking you would simply set the loop range to include the necessary time to breathe/rest in between takes when loop recording during tracking, so the only real savings here are slightly more compact/efficient takes, but not really even since when you were done with the take you would simply trim the event start/end handles to clean it up in the arrangement.

Only thing that's really turning me on thus far is continuous-scroll, that will be a headache-saver in large projects potentially I think.

This is possibly slightly off-topic, but the new (very good) release and the business of accessing some of the features prompted me to comment.

Having recently come to Studio One from a different DAW, I have been surprised at some of the awkward online procedures that support an otherwise excellent product. Could I politely suggest that Presonus critically review the design and underlying scripting of the mypresonus.com site, with a view to revamping it sometime soon. The confusion over downloads, links and navigation on the site is very apparent and well documented on this forum. None of these items should be problematic nowadays...

Updated from 6.6 to 7.2.
Installation went smoothly, except the "Studio One Installation" (on menu Studio One - Studio One Installation) where all the content and new plugins get downloaded. The activation box getting popping up about activation. I ended up cancelling out of the dialogue box each time and then did activation at the end. BTW sub zero bass got installed ok.

The activation is very confusing, it appears to activate all the products at once.

... then there is activating the "purchased items" which is an entirely separate entity.

More confusion, even though the main product is activated I can still go on the Menu to Studio One -> Studio One Activation and it doesn't inform me it's already activated.

The whole downloads/install/activation is a dogs dinner, needs a refresh, and it all needs to be centralised in one area.
I just want to see what is installed, what isn't, what is activated, and what isn't, in one window.
Then I want to select the products I want to activate or not (sure I can have an option to select all and deselect all).
Think "Waves Central" for this.

The good news is that it doesn't need to happen very often, but way to put off new users. It's a mess.

Regardless I'm up and ready and excited to use it.

Hi y'all
Since updating to version 7.2, I’ve been having problems with copy and paste — it just stops working randomly. The only temporary fix is to close and reopen Studio One, which is very time-consuming.

I’ve already tried:
1.Restarting my computer
2.Uninstalling and reinstalling Studio One
3.Resetting user data via %appdata% (kept only user.license)
None of these helped.

When the issue occurs, Studio One becomes completely unresponsive. I’ve attached a video that illustrates the problem more effectively than I can describe.
This is really discouraging.

Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

Am I seeing a failed duplication of a track in your video?

Yesterday, I dragged Kontakt over to a folder to create a new track and then loaded an instrument. I then renamed the track. So far so good.
Then I did the same thing again, loading a different instrument within Kontakt and the instrument worked fine... but then I went to rename the track and it wasn't there. At first I thought I must have dragged the instrument elsewhere and went on a hunt for the track. It simply did not exist.

I ended up having to repeat the process (which did work just fine) and then remove the extra instance of Kontakt. I have not tried to reproduce this because I wasn't sure this was a bug or some sort of user error, especially since I didn't have to close/re-open Studio One or anything, but your video caused me to recall the incident.

Thank you for your input and yes failed duplication of a track in my video, I can't delete, duplicate, or copy and paste — everything becomes unresponsive and non-functional.
I posted on Reddit, and it looks like someone else also got the same issue as the one I have right now.
P.S. Unresponsive and non-functional with the instrument track and Audio track also, I tried with shortcut and mouse, there is an issue with both of them.

Before people think Sub Zero Bass is "just another instrument," check it out. I always use my own bass samples and synth presets, but that might change.
Sounds good Craig! I haven't loaded Sub Zero Bass just yet, but I'm eager to hear it. I loaded v7.2 last night, to explore the continuous autoscroll feature. A nice bass sample player will be a very cool addition, and I'm expecting some nice envelope control, layering, and musical texturing. Looking forward to SZB.
Thanks for the heads up.

I think it's more likely that they are now a lot like other big companies where marketing gets ahead of engineering.

I installed sub zero base upgrading from 6.6 to 7.2 late yesterday without issues. I suspect there was an issue and it was fixed by the time I did it..I don't see any foul play just a glitch in the matrix which they resolved.
