Fender Studio Pro 8.1 - Discussion Thread

Studio Assistant says only available with Fender Stduio One Pro Plus. Day one bugs I guess.

Not a day one bug. This option IS only available with a subscription.

Studio Assistant isn't on the Home Tab - it's up here - taking up space and doing exactly nothin' by being here (for me) :

And - I have Moises AND Splice hidden in my tabs - but they still appear here - for reasons I do not understand at all:

Especially when they are located here (Main Menu->Studio Pro->Studio Pro Installation) and can be installed as needed:

Yeah, I hadn't spotted the sneaky little bugger right at the top!! As you say, what's the point of it being there if you don't have the Plus sub? I'm less bothered by the Moises, Splice and Tonalic icons as those all offer users a free tier with some worthwhile benefits.

Understood.

But those items should only waste space on the new Home tab - IF they are installed.

Wasting space on the new Home tab with no interest whatsoever to ever install these gimmicks - makes no good logical UI sense at all - for me anyway.

Yes, there's no reason - other than marketing - why it shouldn't be possible to hide these items if you don't want them.

This is first time I have seen in the UI where it is now not good enough to simply have a user go to the Installation menu to install an addon - we are now saddled with pointless menu items that somehow are supposed to entice us to make it more obvious?

Maybe when the Home tab has 9 entries that no one asked for - will it get adjusted

Yes, it's a cloud feature and subscription-only. Joe explains it at the beginning of this video:

Hmmm. So now 'updates' are being spent on pay-per-use features not available to full pro users without subscriptions. That's a crappy business model, just saying. It would be great if they could address the design flaws we've been requesting for at least two versions now- like, IDK, getting rid of the 1/16" white border on every selected clip that prevents editing accurately?

The look gets worse every update IMO
I've thought about this a bit, and my opinion is that is continues to get better ever since v6. There's a few things to niggle about (like the new browser tab home button), and still no ability to highlight the frame of any window (too many times I can't find the edge or top bar quickly), yet it is still a pleasing interface to work with.

I love the UI - always have - just don't want the clutter - especially controls that do not apply to me as a perpetual user.

Got Moises working in FSP+. The tracks it generates are very articfacty, underwater sounding... sounds like everything is going through a flanger or something, especially acoustic guitars.. Is this because I have the free version of Moises here? Has anyone tried the other versions which have more control and higher quality?

Studio Assistant does...

Strange (and short-sighted) to make mention of this "hot new feature" in that promo vid - to make it appear as if it's available to everyone.

This implementation - is a tad tacky to be fair. This kind of knowledge - should be available to everyone at any license level.

I agree, but to be fair, any of the prominent LLMs already function as incredible studio one assistants.

I believe some of them were first trained on data scraped from the now defunct forum as well, meaning they have certain knowledge that does not exist anymore on the internet.

Buyer beware OFC, this is just my experience

They'll either give you a great answer, or spit out complete bullshit, you know how it is.

I find the FILES tab disappointing. There doesn't seem to be an option to show the current session folder (like the Pool does). As a result I can navigate so much faster with Windows Explorer.

Feature Request?

Yes, this would be very helpful. It’s a long-standing feature request (no need to submit it again).

It will probably come at some point as part of a bigger Browser update. Single features usually don’t just get added randomly one by one. The team tends to work on a larger area of the program and then related smaller features get included along the way.

Curious as to what you do within the current session folder WITH Explorer. Is there a workflow process or some other reason?

Have to be honest - have used S1/SP since 2011 and have never once found myself looking into the current session folder.

But maybe I should? :)

The first thing that comes to mind: Convert the current mixdown to an MP3 and give it a listen on my phone using regular headphones. I do that within the session folder that is synced with the cloud.

Edit: Or I might want to add new/modified tracks to the session later on. In that case, I place them in a stems folder within the session folder before dragging them onto the timeline.

In the mean time, and this is cumbersome, you can navigate to your mixdown folder via Files, then right-click and create a new tab. This will give you quick navigation. When you no longer need it, right-click and Close Tab.

Another workaround: Create a keyboard shortcut for Session → Show in Explorer/Finder. Then drag this folder from Explorer into the Files tab to add a new tab with this folder.
