"Night Train Home"

After watching a modern jazz quintet on youtube I wanted to write my own jazz quintet. So two weeks ago I dug into jazz theory for the first time and started writing my first modern jazz quintet composition! I wrote all the chords and notes and performed the virtual instruments on keyboard, except drums. No AI.

Features UVI piano and the Studio One Presence trumpet. Also has sax, upright bass and drums to complete the virtual jazz band.

I tried using a jazz trumpet vst, which was very good, but I liked the Presence trumpet instrument more!

Made in Studio One 6 Artist

Piano sounds nice. I know it's hard as hell to get those virtual horns to sound authentic but you did a fine job with it. Nice arrangement.

:)

Nice performance! Wonderful sound on the whole arrangement, feels like a great performance. I don't know if it's my connection or SoundCloud. But I hear quite a few pops and clicks.

Thanks. I thought I heard a pop too a few days ago but not today. If it repeats at same mm:ss time in the song let me know the time position.

Very nice, Michael John. Refreshing being this modern jazz feel. It comes away as authentic, tasteful, and I like that you simply went after this genre (modern Jazz), because it just was something you wanted to try. This is the heart and soul of what a DAW should do. Allow the user to get into the vibe.
Nicely done!
Amen, brother. You didn't sell your soul to the man. ; )

So there I was in New York...went with my date into a bar for a nightcap after seeing a movie, and the band came onstage. I ordered a drink, and looked around. Nice vibe in the place. Started digging on the band...they were good! Glad someone recorded them. That is how you got this recording, right? :ROFLMAO:

+1 on lokeyfly's comments. Good job! More, please :)

Maybe we were playing in one of those clubs at the time. CBGB's, Interferon, White Columns, Area, The Mudd Club, The Cave, The Limelight, .... etc. Seriously love those punk, and/or small smokey lounge places. Great analogy Craig, as Michael John's song fits right in to a modern jazz quintet. I was just waiting to hear Stan Getz step in under the smoke filled stage, with a few pin spot gels in the background. Well done.
