Is it really necessary to re-connect bluetooth MIDI devices manually every time on MacOS?

Every time I go to use my MIDI keyboard with S1, I have to run Mac 'Audio MIDI Setup', find the BT device, then click on 'Connect' to get it to work.

Is there not some way of making the device auto-connect to avoid all that?

There is something wrong there. That is not normal. I have got quite a lot of midi hardware connected to my Mac and it is permanently connected every time I use it.

Are any of your devices BT? Do they reconnect even after being switched off?

What do you mean by BT?

OK so no I don't have any Bluetooth devices connected. All my midi hardware is either USB eg my MAudio controller or the synths are all connected via 5 pin connections to the Midi interfaces which are connected via USB. I would not rely on Bluetooth for anything other than audio playback from some audio source occasionally maybe.

Thanks a lot. It works fine for my needs, but just a pain to have to go through 'Audio MIDI Setup' and 'connect' every time it is switched off or the Mac sleeps.

BT automatically disconnects when you power off either the transmitter or receiver (ie: phone connected to your car audio PB system). This is by design. Putting a CPU to 'sleep' turns off all network TX/RC by design.

My bluetooth Apple Magic Keyboard, trackpad, etc. all connect automatically after sleep etc. and the MIDI keyboard also auto-connects to bluetooth and can be seen in the Mac bluetooth devices list.
The issue is that the MIDI keyboard just doesn't show in DAWs until 'connect' is selected in 'Audio MIDI Setup'>'MIDI Studio'>'BT Configuration'>'Connect' and that is a pain.

Does no one use a bluetooth device on Mac with Studio One (or any other DAW) here?

Generally no I would say. What is your keyboard controller?

Thanks. It's a RockJam RJMK25 MIDI Keyboard.

Does it only send midi over Bluetooth? Is the USB port only for charging. Can the USB port be used for transferring midi. I would imaging it would. Do you like moving it around a lot, then I can understand you needing the Bluetooth connection.

It can be used by USB, but I bought it for use on BT. It works perfectly on BT, it’s just the annoyance of having to connect via Audio MIDI Setup each time after switching off, or Mac goes to sleep.

I believe that's a power-saving measure, and may be adjustable in your Mac's settings - it is in Windows.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I don’t think it is. The device is always connected as a BT device in MacOS, it’s just that it can’t be used in a DAW till re-connected in Audio MIDI Setup each time.
Are you guys Mac users?

I am a part-time Mac user (I keep an old MBP), but not for music purposes - and I’ve never used any kind of Bluetooth keyboard. I had problems with Windows putting a BT dongle into power-saving mode fairly recently - completely unrelated to music (it was my Zwift setup (iykyk)) but it sounded sufficiently similar to possibly be relevant!

Thanks again.
Looking into this issue some more, it looks like this is normal behaviour. Any BT device has to be re-connected in AMS after any switch off or system restart/awake from sleep before it can be used in a DAW. Seems odd to me as MacOS itself already 'sees' the device, but there we are.
I might just try posting in the Logic forum, just in case someone there knows differently.

Hi imacken,
I have the same issue with the Boss EV-1 expression pedal, and this reconnecting process is really annoying. Please post here if you find any solution on other forums. Thanks!

I realised I had already posted on Logic forum and got no solution there. I think we can assume we have to live with this irritation!
