Hammond Sk1-73 midi

Has anyone connected their SK series Hammond keyboard to use as a midi controller? I am trying to connect with a midi to USB adapter. My mac mini has USB 3 ports

What is your actual question? Connecting a USB MIDI input device should be as easy as connecting the device and adding a Keyboard for it in Studio One's External Devices window.

For connecting keyboards and MIDI controllers, I made this video:

Provide your system specs in your signature, so that we can best offer you suggestions.
Most audio interfaces already have a USB connection, and most (not all) have MIDI I/O. so if your SK Hammond keyboard doesn't have a USB connection, your audio interface can be that Interface (from MIDI). The audio interface will also provide any other connectivity for you.
Then, check Lukas' excellent video on having Studio One see your keyboard.

To Lukas, or someone more knowledgeable than I...I just joined here and thought I would shoot off this kind of newbie question here, since the SK1 and midi was mentioned. I just got a Hammond SK1 73, and I am able to midi out of the SK1 to my midi in on my Focusrite to my Mac using Logic Pro, and able to use the SK1 as a controller for my DAW with no issues. My question is: is there a fast way to change on the fly between the internal sounds of the SK1 and the midi out to my DAW. Im not seeing an easy way to go back and forth, and Im sure Im missing something. My only workaround solution at this point is just to turn the volume down on my SK1 when I am using the midi out/DAW, but that can't be the best solution.
Thanks in advance! Gangway

Did you just hook it up and it worked or dif you have to go into the menu and change settings?? Can you yell us what settings you used ?
Believe me, I’m no expert in midi. But for your reference, I’m connecting an SK1 73 via midi out to a 2i2 focusrite audio interface (the red ones a lot of people use), and then I connect my 2019 MacBook Pro to the focusrite. I’m able to then use my SK1 to control Logic Pro (at least to a basic extent), like using all the sounds from Logic on my SK1, able to record, etc.
What kind of SK do you have and what are you trying to do?

Cool, about the SK1 73. That's what I have. Im just learning about it. So what is the issue you are having? I don't use Studio One (maybe I should), but are you saying that the Mac mini doesn't recognize your SK1 at all? Does your Mac mini have GarageBand and does GarageBand recognize it? I didn't have to do anything to the settings of my SK1 for my MacBook to recognize it. I have my own questions about that though. I am wondering what the best Midi Template I should use on the SK1 if I just want to be able to use the SK1 for its internal sounds as well as hook up to Logic Pro via midi to my computer? I am not 100 percent which template to use? Basic, 2 keyboard, extra voice, etc. etc

I am going to have to go to youtube and find some videos… there are some videos on the SK1 at Hammond Suzuki. Stay away from Studio One… some oeople like it but I have. Studio Live 16.4.2ai board and 3 different older computers and their customer service sucks. I use to use Logic Pro 9 but it did not migrate properly to my newer Mac Mini… at 73 years old I think I am finally going to move to Pro Tools … if they will let me buy an older cersion that will runon my machine… just trying to work on my last and final CD

Why is it asking me to accept 3rd party cookies… isn’t there just a youtube link??

I never did get Studio one to recognize my Roland A49. It works without issues in everything else.
So there’s a possibility that the USB to Midi cable has a midi driver issue.
Example Hammond Lefty has no problem using a Focusrite interface.

Studio One offers the worst hardware support of any DAW on the market. That's why I switched from Studio One to Cubase 14 and deleted my PreSonus account. I use an Akai MPK 261 for my keyboard, which Studio One never fully supported. Everything's perfect in Cubase 14.

I don't understand why there are USB keyboards that can't work as class compliant MIDI devices. Class compliant keyboards are recognized by any DAW, at least with basic MIDI features.

My Nektar LX61+ is a class compliant USB MIDI keyboard. All DAWs I tested including Studio One and others (see signature) recognize it and allow using basic MIDI features (note on/off from keys and pads, CC events from sliders and buttons, program change etc.) Installation of a specific driver is only required if you want the keyboard to be able to control your DAW. Fortunately, Nektar provides such a driver especially made for Studio One

I also own a very primitive USB MIDI interface. I use this to connect vintage MIDI synthesizers such as my DX7 Mk. 1 to my computer. The interface is class compliant. As a result, it is recognized by Studio One and other DAWs. You need no specific driver for it (in fact, there is none).

I have owned the A49 for at least 12 or more years. Roland has always kept the driver up to date. They now have actually made the driver part of Windows updates. But I still check the website and use that. If any brand of keyboard has solid drivers it’s probably Roland

Note edit: I re installed the driver and it is working fine now.

It's important to understand that Studio One is an entry-level DAW primarily aimed at PreSonus products. Hardware support in Studio One is abysmal. It can't compete with Cubase 14.

I switched from Samplitude Pro X7 Suite (definitely not an entry-level DAW) to Studio One.

Samplitude recognizes all my keyboards and USB MIDI interfaces, and so does Studio One (and the other DAWs listed in my signature).

However, I don't own a Roland keyboard. And my vintage Yamaha KX88 is connected to the MIDI IN of my Quantum HD8, which is of course recognized by Studio One.

Hopefully Cubase improved their overall product since i left. I dumped Cubase at version 5 and what a relief. I can say tho, that cubase did have a clear advantage with midi. It probably still does? What midi stuff I have ever connected to Studio One over
the years worked for me and still works. Studio One was groundbreaking (drag & drop ect) for me and i have to Totally disagree with you that Studio One is an entry level DAW :ROFLMAO:🖖
