I really wish there was a way to use the split tool on MIDI events in the arranger window that would not just hide the cut MIDI data but actually discards it - and properly cuts off MIDI notes at the end of the event!

The way the split tool (or using the mouse to shorten events by dragging the edges) works is driving me crazy because it only ever hides the data and I wonder if that over time might also contribute to an insane amount of inactive accumulated MIDI data (and possibly contributing to speed and resource issues) .
I am thinking here about large projects and hundreds of tracks with long run times...

I'm not sure why you're saying the Split Tool would just hide the MIDI data - that's not what usually happens. I just tested it again, and it correctly split all MIDI data (notes and automation data) into multiple separate events.

- and properly cuts off MIDI notes at the end of the event!
If you want it to split notes as well, hold Option (Alt on Windows) while splitting the event.

Hi Lukas,

I saw a thread a while ago in which you said that the next version of Navigation essentials would bring the possibility to enable/disable certain plugins with a macro or jey command.

I looked in the release notes and got the impression that you haven't gotten around to this. If so, I would happily pay for a add on that provided this functionality.

The main reason: I use Sonarworks AND Slate VSX and I'd like to be able to toggle between those with a macro and via StreamDeck.

Thanks
This can already be done. :) The macro control will be more flexible but those kind of switching is possible. With the new addition I think you gain more control to do a lot of different scenarios.

Here is a short video where I map the bypass of 2 instances of Sonaworks to a generic button which than can be triggered by the Streamdeck.

Short explanation:
- Right Click on Bypass
- Assign to Macro Control -> Button
- Repeat with the next plugin
- Switch to the macro control page and reverse one of the actions.

@Lukas It's not possible to turn off a single plugin completely by macro isn't it? Not bypass, really off. The usecase for it could be something like to turn off a master chain (with tons of oversampling) while mixing and turning it on before export. :) Also you could turn it on while having the export window open, you know I always complain about the window modality behaviour. ;)

Edit: Oh I see, the screenshot you've posted seems to have it. This will be awesome, because I do it all the time, working on the song, make a test export and I wanna have it loud and "pre-mastered" but the plugins have a lot of CPU load which I only need during export and bypass of course don't free the CPU load. And I can also enable my analog chain for this with a macro. The Pipepline plugin doesn't have a bypass...

Yes, what you’re showing (→ Macro Control) is only possible if the Elgato controller sends data via MIDI (or a related protocol). Bypassing or (de)activating it via a macro (not the same thing as a Macro Control - this sometimes leads to confusion) isn’t possible yet, but it will be with the new commands. Then this can be done with a keyboard shortcut (and an Elgato StreamDeck that sends keyboard shortcuts).

Oh yeah of course, I forgot to mention that. :) this will give a lot more flexibility to the setup. I have installed the MIDI plugin on my streamdeck to trigger events and because I tend to run out of available and memorizable keyboard shortcuts. Sadly, Win screwed the loopMidi a bit and you have to do some steps to enable virtual MIDI ports again.
The Streamdeck in combination with my Faderport became my preferred controller settings, especially in combination with S1 Macros you can map so many different things and extend the workflow. I can switch different Listening environments quickly, do A/B Listenings, all mapped on my Streamdeck.

@Lukas another question (because I currently cannot check myself): is the suggested feature “Split Events at Markers / Arranger Sections” not what Studio One /Pro already does? I would have sworn that the events are cut at the respective position as soon as you drag an arrangement element to another position. So maybe I just misunderstood and you can elaborate a bit? :)

That's correct, but there may be situations where you want to "split at markers/sections" without moving arranger sections and that's what the new commands can do.

Ah, that makes sense and sounds useful! Thanks for clarifying! (y)

Some nice spoilers there.
I'm personally a fan of:

Track Markers / Time-based Track Notes - Now that's just neat
Save & Recall Track Selection - Fantastic for trying out a variety of options
Instrument Favorites (Quick Insert) - We all have our favourites
Reverse & Shuffle Events - Sometimes it's great to experiment and this allows this (All hail happy accidents)

Sort by Tracks is making progress…

Thanks for the feedback, @BobF and @Sethares!

"Sort by date of last edit" is unfortunately not possible, since there's no information about the timing of the last edit actions in tracks or events. However, I've implemented "play state" (solo → normal → mute → disabled).
