Waiting for SO 7 update news

Also just reading some Reddit crosstalk - it appears (NOT confirmed) that if you purchase an upgrade - you get not one - but two years worth of updates.

If this is true - I may just pull the trigger on this after all...

The website FAQs say it's exactly as it was under PreSonus: one year of updates.

Given the dust that is flying over there at Fendersonus HQ - I am guessing the last thing they are worried about today is the accuracy of the FAQs on the website.

This is a tad more urgent and realtime (from Reddit)

Take it for what you will - but this guy has no reason to fudge something like this.

I am hoping someone (other than just this user) can confirm one way or another.

I'll know in a couple of weeks - I've decided that at $99 I'll go for an update when my sub runs out on 29/1 (as we write it in Europe!) - which is a little earlier than I thought it was!

Apropos of what we were discussing re newsletters, there's now an option to receive them in the Account Settings at MyFender.

Saw that - I am all signed up.

If I find out anymore about the update window - I will post back.

But here is another interesting - but not entirely unexpected twist:

Windows 11 users must be at 23H2 or higher and...

Windows 10 folks are now on the clock . As are Mac OS Ventura users

Yeah, I'm surprised that my old MBP running Monterey can run 7.2.3 - though it struggles! It's getting closer to retirement...

The rumour mill is in overdrive, I will wait until the dust has settled a bit.
That Win 10 and Mac guillotine dates is gonna bring some on-cost for folk to keep up. :(

Regards

As a Win10 hold-out, I'm happy to have the time

As am I.

I am on the ESU for several machines here - but 2026 will be a transition year for certain.

Maybe the confusion over 2 years is coming from this...

2 years @ $179, I imagine the Monthly $19.99 signs you up for 12 month contract, if that makes sense.

Anyway, best of regards.
Nope - pretty sure it's this

I am getting a bit antsy and might just spend some money today :)

@Vocalpoint
Sorry about that, just me having a senior moment.
Go for it if it's genuine

Kindest regards and apologies.

Ummm, went for it @ $99, cheap update, so far looking good. Update: I think the note extraction is significantly better then Melodyne, and on my system extremely fast. Since I two most used vst are Opus and TOC4 this is really great.

The results of the new 'Extract Drums' feature.

Why have they never been able to get audio to MIDI right? This is genuinely the one thing i need S1 (or FP) to do right and i'd never even mention another DAW ever again

EDIT: Play around with it for about 30 mins now. To me other than the worse UI, any changes made (including addition of fender amps) are not relevant to my needs. I was really hoping they would fix Audio to MIDI and i got pretty excited reading the Release Notes earlier seeing their Beat Extract/drum replacement new feature. Screenshot shows this doesn't work well at all. This is literally the only feature i need but disheartened that many iterations later, still not been addressed.

I think i'm going to stick to S17 or commit to Cubase
Hi! Have you played more around with this and found any solutions? Could it be that the transient detection is based on the same old (sluggish) algorithm and it’s just the allocation of midi pitches and sound selections that are updated?

Edit: You can even see in official videos that the timing is off for these features, both for tonal examples and for percussive examples.

I'm impressed by the note extraction with guitar. It's not perfect, but it's polyphonic and because it's offline, much less prone to false triggering than real-time processes. What's really cool is recording with the Jamstick guitar, because it has real-time MIDI and audio outputs. That way I can preview what the MIDI instrument will sound like in real time, while the audio is captured if offline processing is needed.

I've since gone back to 7.2.3 but tested the Extract Drums on a number of tracks (kicks/snares) but yeah it appears it is extracting in the same old silly way it does with transient detection.

Thanks for answering. I see that the installer for version 8 finally appeared in my account, so I’ll try it out on my old M1 Mac when I have time one of these days.
