Use Arturia Keylab mk2 and NI Kontrol 88 mk3 hardware controllers at same time?

Will I have full simultaneous functionality with both controllers in Fender Studio 8.1? The Arturia Keylab mkii is my main DAW controller. I will keep it as my main controller.

I'm considering replacing my Studiol;ogic SL990 XP with a NI Kontrol S88 mk3. The NI S88 mkIII would be my Komplete Kontrol/Kontakt 8 interface.

Don't have those devices, but I run a fader control surface along with an NI KKs61 keyboard and they both supply transport controls. And the s61 does what it was meant for with Komplete Kontrol. Shouldn't be a problem.

I've had zero problems having my KKS61 MK2 in use along with other keyboards and controllers.

Not sure how well FSP8 and KKS MK3 gets along these days

Here as well. KK S49 MK2, with several other keyboard controllers, including Atom SQ. Never a problem. There are some Mk3 issues, only I dont remember them, offhand. .

Thank you. I'm reading that KK MK3 did not play well within FSP when released. Hopefully the FSP team have addressed this. I'll have a look at bug fixes.

Studio Pro/One has not enabled the NI v2.0 firmware updates for the S Mk3 keyboards, so the DAW/plugin control is not as good as it is in other DAWs. I’m sure VP will be along in a minute, but I believe the Mk2 boards have slightly better integration as long as you keep the Hardware Control Services software limited to a certain version.

That said, the integration with Komplete Kontrol is fabulous and the screen is gorgeous.

As I recall, Vocalpoint has a mk2 and mk3.you can either message him, or he'll chime in. He has commented before and can fill you in as to those issues, or progress.
Cheers.

As I recall, VP has left his S61 Mk3 in its box and intends to leave it there until and unless he feels that the integration in Studio Pro gives him a significant enhancement over what he has with the S Mk2.

Yep, I was little gray on weather he reached some point where he was using what might have been good enough to open the mk3. Dunno. But he's the guy on having the latest on this. I wouldnt be able to hold out that long buying and not using something.
I wouldnt last more than a few hours.

Hey guys - my main DAW was rebuilt from the ground up on July 31. The MKIII became my daily driver on that day.

And yes - I realize that we still have not gotten the "real" integrations for the Kontrol Firmware 2.x like the rest of the "big" DAWs have - but I needed to move things forward.

The MKIII is rock solid and doing what it is supposed to do within the confines of what I would call - standard operating procedure within FSP.

TIP: This change has been in my sig since August 1.

Cheers!

Thanks for helping chase this.
Like many MkII owners, we will eventually go to a MkIII (or MkIV) at some point.

So yeah, as mentioned earlier, you can use any number of controllers. As to full functionality of the MkIii, best to observe any posts in the Presonus/Fender Questions, and add your concerns with your specific details.
Cheers.

Everyone should keep in mind that Vocalpoint in addition to being an active participant here is eqully active on the Native Instrument's Komplete Kontrol forum and has been contending with their controllers ever since KK mkII came out like 7 years ago. It may not be quite as simple for anyone else to attain "standard operating procedure" with a mkIII, mainly because FSP has not responded to the peculiarities of the mkIII series. That said, with all the managerial changes and financial instability revolving around NI, I can't completely blame Fender for not coming up with a handshaking procedure that may need to be superceded any time NI chnages the firmware on the KK.

I'm just one guy, but before I invest in a mkIII like for instance the S61, I'd need to know an expensive controller keyboard from a company in transition could do more that just operate standardly. I'd have to know specifically what funcitonality moving from mkII to mkIII gets me and how it theoretically would make my life in FSP (if I owned it, still on S1 v6) better and brighter.

I have an S88 Mk3. I never had a Mk 2. As a controller for Komplete Kontrol/Kontakt, it is fabulous. As a DAW/plugin controller for FSP it's... meh. It's basically standard Mackie, but slightly restricted because of the lack of physical controls. It does have the facility to create control maps for other VSTs outside the NKS system, but I think other people do that better. I have used it with Cubase 15 (on the 60-day trial), and the functionality is significantly increased with the v2.0 firmware enabled by that DAW (and most others, so I don't accept that Fender has a reasonable excuse for not enabling it).

All that said, I have a number of other controllers and really I don't need the S Mk3 to do more than it does. Basic transport controls, and the deep control of Kontakt instruments is fine. It's a shame we can't have the nice toys it's capable of delivering, but maybe one day!

Well I'd agree that Fender doesn't have a reasonable excuse for working out the kinks between FSP and other keyboard controllers like for instance the Keylab mkIII series from solvent company Arturia to name one of many that are underperforming with FSP, but I'd still contend the situation with NI insolvency or whatever form it's morphed into today is a little more dire to spend resources on. Glad VP finally found the KK mkIII usable though. Only took, what, three years? Nothing in geological time Oh wait, we're talkig about recording time...

Yeah - it took a lot of patience to keep that thing in the box all that time :)

But then again - this DAW is used in a professional context with clients interjecting whenever they feel like it. So something like changing main controllers in the middle of a Tuesday has never been something I would do on a whim - AND doing this upgrade into the old build (prior to July 31) made little sense as that DAW build was a very long serviced Windows 10 layout that I finally had to put out to pasture.

Once I notified my clients and I had a week to make the move without pressure - it was time to uncork the MKIII and get it into rotation. I am very well aware of FSP not giving me access to the "fancy stuff" - but the transition was seamless once this full Win 11 rebuild was done.

Of course - it would be fab for Fender to get on with giving this DAW the full menu of integration that other DAWs now have - but I use the MKIII daily and even the "standard" integration is just as robust - if not more so - than the MKII ever was. I have zero complaints with my NI stuff within FSP v8.12.

Well then the good news I'd take away from that is it's a great time to buy one since future support is too iffy to justify previously outrageous pricing and sellers seems a good deal more flexible than they were before word got out about NI insolvency. And, to the best of my knowledge, although the mkIII is mostly knobless (except for essentials) and sliderless it still remains the only keyboard controller that displays the name of the program being played where you can't miss it. Head-scratching why they're the only company to figure this out.

I'm not sure why you feel that Native Instruments under InMusic is less secure than it was under Francisco. The whole point of the transfer of ownership was to remove its debt and give it a secure future in an organisation whose only focus is music! However, you're right that a few deals have begun to appear - I've just seen it for £679 at thedjshop.co.uk, which is a very good price indeed.
