Studio One Pro Update Releases?

The number of developers is actually growing - and they're hiring.

PreSonus generally doesn't communicate publicly about upcoming updates or features until they’re ready to release something. So it's not unusual or cause for concern. And yes, a new update is coming soon.

Thanks for the reassurance, Lukas!

Contrary to this statement, however, PreSonus did publish a binding statement regarding future updates in the aforementioned video from last year. And there it was unmistakably stated that in the future three to four smaller to major program improvements per year will be sent to Studio One users. PreSonus must now be measured against this statement. The general displeasure of customers is therefore quite justified.

„Binding statement”? That would be a stretch. I rather consider this video as “non-binding declaration of intent” or “Marketing statement without legal entitlement”.

Highly trotting marketing promises that do not have to be fulfilled is not what the loyal Presonus customer should deserve.

There were no "promises", no fulfillments and not all Presonus customers are loyal either.

That video did have strong statements, suggestions, nice to haves and other blurbs that may (or may not) have been delivered in a timely manner (for some of us anyway) - but none of that is "binding" in any way.

But I can accept this is a business - and software development has schedules, processes, procedures AND unknowns.

Reality - months after that video was cut - could be vastly different that what Presonus anticipated at that time of that video.

Yes - I too - am mildly frustrated - waiting patiently for the next update - and yes I do feel (based on that video) like a really long time has gone by since the one and only "Feature Drop" we have had but the next update will come - when it comes.

That is all you and I (as hopefully loyal customers) will get.

There is so much anger between your lines that I get the impression this is no longer about Presonus, but that you are waging a lonely war against capitalism.

Capitalism or not. A few well-thought-out and helpful innovations for Studio One every three to four months in the real world and not only as marketing videos would be enough for me. I think that's what the topic starter wanted to ask for as well.

That is something we can agree on. (y)

Well ... it seems that they have been busy. But with something else:

How long until we all are Fender Studio

Very cool. And not surprising considering Andy Mooney (Fender CEO) talked about this even back in the early days when Fender bought Presonus.

This also has a bit of a correlation (to me anyway) as to why S1 Prime (for sure) was probably iced.

Anyone who just wants 8 tracks of free, portable recording action can just use this.

Missed opportunity: no chance to register with your existing Presonus account; you need to create a new Fender account. Bummer.

Sometimes I'm wondering what's the purpose of those applications is. Why would you have a guitar with you in the middle of nowhere, so that your phone would be mandatory to record something?

The built in recorder is already enough if you have an idea in mind that you want to save.

I do not get it either - but that is probably just because of my way of working.

However - just running the basic setup through my mind (even I had a guitar AND that little I/O doodad that you can buy) - seems like it would be about 10 minutes too long and would annoy me.

At least it's free.

I'm actually going to believe that whatever comes next will be a huge update. Things that aren't currently working right will be fixed. Features will be updated. New things introduced. All in one giant update. We will look back at this thread and laugh. "Oh how silly was that Update Thread!!" we will say. "Indeed!" others will agree. I will be able to render EventFX without having to restart my session. All will be good.

I will be able to render EventFX without having to restart my session.

Just out of curiosity, what's the problem? I render EventFX all the time without issues, so I must be missing something about waht you're saying.

It's important to remember that sometimes companies get thrown curve balls. Windows 10 is going away but everything has to be tested with W10 as well as W11, which is still a bit of a moving target. People are expecting ARM Windows versions and Linux versions. Apple frequently introduces new system APIs or enhancements with each chip generation, so apps that use those frameworks may need minor adjustments. And when something like the M4 comes out, everything that worked with the M1 etc. has to be re-tested for conformity.

It's also worth noting that MIDI 2.0 is making significant progress. macOS already has the hooks for it, and Windows is showing previews with an expected rollout to the public in a few months, along with changes in the audio stack IIRC. If there's going to be competitive pressure for MIDI 2.0 compatibility, I'm sure PreSonus wouldn't want to be left behind. Hopefully they're paying attention to which MIDI 2.0 features they want to add.

There was a period many years ago when Native Instruments spent an entire year just revisiting all their products to make them compatible with changes that were happening simultaneously with both the Windows and Mac platforms. A company representative told me it just about put them out of business, because they couldn't introduce new products and all their updating efforts had to be devoted to compatibility over their entire product line. What's worse, the company couldn't charge for those kind of compatibility updates, and they didn't have the bandwidth to do monetizable functional updates as well. If my "NAMM haze" memory is correct, I think PSP Audioware mentioned having the same kind of issues around that time too, and it was very difficult for them to cope.

Who knows what's going on behind the scenes...if PreSonus is running into these kind of problems, they're not going to start whining in public. They'll just keep trying to deal with whatever's thrown at them. On the other hand, maybe they just sit around all day, drink beer, and play videogames. They won't tell us that, either

As to updates...I'm probably in the minority, but I really don't care all that much. Throw me some bug fixes, refine some features, introduce a couple new workflow enhancements, and I'll be happy. I'm still not using 100% of what the program already offers. But I'm trying 🤔

I can imagine the next S1 update may include a direct way to transfer files from the Fender App to S1 similar to Presonus capture.

I think if we were in the old model, not many people would be moaning, but as we were sold an (optional) annual £150 subscription for updates with a promise of 3 or 4 a year with very little showing after almost 8 months, I guess a lot of us are a little sceptical. Particularly in respect of paying the next £150.
No doubt there will be a lot of activity from Presonus leading up to October, but, let's see.
