Quantum HD 8 will not receive firmware updates

I've had lots of issues with updating the firmware on this thing over the years, but today, it's completely stumped me.

I see a new version of UC is out, with Fender in the name, and the connection between my physical HD8 interface & the UC software was for some reason broken today (no meters in UC, no ability to route anything, can't control volume outputs, etc -- but inputs still work in my DAW)

So I grab the new UC, install it, make a Fender account, sign in, and I'm left with this. I see no way to update the firmware as a result, so I can't even open the virtual mixer app itself.

UC will not update firmware to HD8

Any advice?

Thank you!

This sounds so familiar. I purchased a brand new Quantum ES4. Had it all connected (cables) but could not link to Computer. After much fussing around I was finally able to connect to computer however, most of the Interface was working but some things not working (like the alt 3/4 output) So I looked around on Fenders / Presonus site and found the legacy drivers for UC. My mac mini on this small set up is an 2014 with Monterey on it. I am thinking that may have been part of the issue.

Finally after much more messing around got it all working however, in UC it's telling me there's an UC update, so I did and it screwed things all up. After much more fussing around I got it back to where it is working. It still tells me to update UC. I am not doing that again as everything is working as intended. I probably should have sent a support ticket (and probably still should) to address the constant update UC message.

So, long story short, I don't have any good info for you other than to keep trying or get a ticket to support. I spent a good 4 hours working on this to get it going. Should have taken 10 - 20 minutes.
I am sitting here wondering how much of this is Fender and how much the old Computer I have the interface hooked to
may be causing issues.
I know on this interface there is a cut off as to what OS it needs to have. I'm right there at the edge. Anyways, hope you get it sorted quickly. It's a very frustrating thing for sure ✌️🖖

I got this thing now. Any hints as to which version of UC works best for you? I got it today, and same as you it shows up only in Windows devices as the USB Device with the name. I am still using a pretty old version of UC. Maybe I'll test a few of them out here on the internet computer which doesn't have a version installed already. Have you any got the Fender UC installed and tell me what differences there are. No matter I can do it myself. I will test them all.

I use a PreSonus Quantum ES2, a PreSonus Quantum HD2, and a PreSonus Studio 26C on Windows 11 Pro 25H2 (all different computers). I have the latest Fender Universal Control on all of them. I have never had any problems updating any of these interfaces.

Yeah you know what it's all good. I just used the latest UC and it wanted me to do a firmware update. I did it easily and didn't have to go online on that computer to do it, it seems it is included in the UC download. Looks good so far. Pretty sure it wiped my 'scenes' that I had...heh I was using the UC from 2022. Hilarious. Hope things work alright. I knew it would do that so I made a screenshot of the entire setup the 1810c which I will be migrating to the HD8, then also every channel of the 1824c which I will be using as always (no cables were touched it stays the same, just removed the adat in to the 1810c and put it in the HD8).

It took a minute for the UC to open up when I selected the old interfaces. Seemed to keep freezing I ended it in task manager many times. Then I started looking thru Windows Settings and as soon as I opened the privacy of the mic setting, it opened the device. Like it was waiting for encouragement or something. You know when you open a program and another finally gets the go ahead to start working. I mean I didn't touch the settings in Windows but just the act of opening the privacy for the MIC seemed to populate with the various programs that use the "MIC" (which basically seems to mean any audio in in windows opinion). OBS. VBAN, the Oscilloscopes. Then like clockwork the UC finally opened up the mixer. Guess it needed Windows to start seeing things. My setup is probably slow like that because I try to keep background activities to a minimum.

Glad you got it sorted!

My mac mini on this small set up is an 2014 with Monterey on it. I am thinking that may have been part of the issue.

Could very well be. It's pre-Apple Silicon. I noticed the success stories had Windows machines in their signatures.

Yeah, i had a very odd experience with the Quantum ES4 on this / my secondary system with the 2014 Mac Mini W/Monterey on it. And, I still do. It's telling me there's an UC update. It's fully working so no more messing around with it unless I try to fix with a Support Ticket. Not gonna do that unless it becomes unusable. This small system sits on my Dining Room Table so If I
get something in my head I can get it recorded quick fast and in a hurry (my small studio is in a close but separate building)

My main mac mini 2018 (pre-Apple Silicon) has not had any issues with UC nor have I with previous Mac Desktops I had in the past. With that, It is likely this old 2014 Mac Mini that is not super responsive with version 7 (it won't run version 8)
I'm gonna have to really start looking seriously at new computer(s) They are just so freaking expensive. I probably
should look at Windows when I get around to actually buying one but, I had such bad experiences with Windows
that I it may have a mental block buying one. The Windows ordeal was with Windows Vista. At the time I was able
to upgrade to Windows 7 and did really help. That was many years ago and no doubt things have changed ✌️🖖

Yeah I got it pretty much working. One thing I can't seem to get is ADAT ins in other programs, like ASIO ADAT. Still looking into it. The 1810c always gave all 4 stereo ADAT ins, the 1824c always gave all 4 stereo ADAT ins, but this thing is a blank. Windows doesn't even know these ADATs exist.

If you know this problem I'd be glad to get some info and get it solved, by the way all the ADAT channels in the UC are grayed out (the knob icon at the top of the channels is just dark gray and doesn't respond).

I am going to look at the manual. It is time to look at that thing for the first time. Hey I just got the thing yesterday. Looks like the regular manual doesn't have much good info in it in regards to software issues you need to look at the Software manual which you may be able to find in the Presonus website https://www.fmicassets.com/Damroot/...*16mf6jh*_gcl_au*MTk0MzUyOTM3Ni4xNzg4OTM1ODE4

I don't use the Apple devices personally much, but there is a section on enabling the driver in Apple devices in that software (1.1.4)

I do have a MBP on Monterey. I don't have any of my interfaces or UC working with it at the moment, but if I get time I'll have an experiment later today or tomorrow and report back.

I do not know much of this ADAT stuff so can't really help much. I can say my buddy has Studio One Ver 6 along with a macbook
pro and SSL Interface that as ADAT plug(s). He also has 2 old ADAT 8 track tape machines (vhs type) We ran cable from
old ADAT machine into the SSL Interface and sure enough all 8 channels showed up in Studio One in the In / out track setup.
We were able to transfer data but the very old tapes were shot. There was some fussing around in the software of the SSL
it seemed like. Anyways, this probably does not help but thought I'd throw it out there. Good Luck with it ✌️🖖
