I do not have (or can even show) an icon like this on my rig.

Well - it's very clear on the video your posted.

I recorded that screen video with OBS studio and I just fired OBS up again and then that icon appears.I have no clue what it means but when I turn off OBS the icon goes away.

Win11/SP8 - Out of curiosity I switched to No Audio Device and I can drag WAV files in from File Explorer no problem.

Ah - got it. Non-related.

What happens if you start Studio Pro using the icon on the Start Menu?.

Or by double clicking the actual executable within:

C:\Program Files\Fender\Studio Pro 8\Studio Pro.exe

With 8 open and minimized I can drag files from my other monitor and drop them anywhere on the screen except into Fender 8.This tells me there is something in 8 that I need to check or uncheck to allow drag and drop functionality in the app.

Same thing......no drag and drop.I am obsessed now over this thing.🤒

Hmmm

It was just a stray thought.. too bad it wasn't that simple.
Does SP have permission to access the drive/folder of the file you're dragging in? Have you tried dragging it in from the SP internal files browser?

Whats the story with DPI on the monitors? Are they all Standard HD (1920x1080p) on all three? Is Windows Scaling set to 100%?

And - what happen if we revisit the Run as Admin and do this:

  1. Close Studio Pro completely
  2. Right click on your SP icon and choose Properties-> Advanced
  3. Run as Admin IS already unchecked - this time check it and Hit apply
  4. Then uncheck it again and hit Apply
  5. Then fire up SP8 and test.

Tried all that yesterday with no success.

Try to Restart Windows Explorer: Task Manager > Right-click Windows Explorer > Restart

(Helps to sort by Name first then scroll down to windows explorer, if things are moving around too much)

Gerran is onto something here:

Your audio interface is not connected.

And if so - there is no possibility of D&D.

Probably why none of us can replicate.

Seems like something else is going over there.

@Gerran - great catch!

FYI: if you notice SO7/SP8 when on the home page (no project loaded), if you move to the desktop for any operation, the Audio I/O will drop off line in Win10/11 momentarily, even though it is connected. This is so that Windows Explorer can 'share' the ASIO driver with other applications like YT or a browser. Totally normal. Once you click back into SO/SP, it will re-init and run as it should, at least in my experience, but that could be due to the fact that my ASIO I/O runs everything audio related on my tower.

These are Gemini's suggestions to try:

1. Rogue Compatibility Mode

If an application is set to run in compatibility mode for an older version of Windows (like Windows 7 or 8), it uses legacy APIs to render its window. This frequently breaks communication with the modern Windows 11 File Explorer, causing drag-and-drop to fail silently.

  • The Fix: Right-click the shortcut or .exe file of the program and select Properties. Go to the Compatibility tab. Ensure that Run this program in compatibility mode for is completely unchecked. Click Apply and restart the app.

2. Corrupted Local Configuration Data

Most programs store user-specific UI settings, window positions, and temporary states in the hidden AppData folders. If the configuration file responsible for the app's interface gets corrupted, its ability to accept external file drops can break.

  • The Fix: You can force the app to rebuild its configuration without uninstalling it. Press Win + R, type %appdata%, and press Enter. Look for a folder with the name of the app or its developer. Rename that folder (e.g., change "AppName" to "AppName_Backup"). Restart the program. It will act like it was just installed and generate fresh, uncorrupted configuration files.

3. Broken Registry "DropHandlers"

When a program is installed, it registers specific keys in the Windows Registry telling the OS, "I am allowed to accept these files." Sometimes, a bad software update, a system crash, or an overly aggressive registry cleaner deletes or corrupts these specific keys.

  • The Fix: The cleanest way to rebuild registry keys is a direct repair or reinstall. Go to Settings > Apps > Installed apps. Find the program, click the three dots next to it, and select Modify or Advanced options if available. Choose Repair. If Repair isn't an option, uninstalling and freshly reinstalling the program is the only way to rewrite those registry keys.

This is definitely a permissions issue.

Somewhere - the permissions of your Explorer Process (the drag) - simply does not compute with the permissions of Studio Pro (the drop)

This is not a setting you can change with the program either. This is an OS level clash someplace.
