Solved How to Rename a Project

What is the safest sequence to rename an entire project such that all tracks and other media do not lose their correct connections? There are many files involved in a typical project, so the answer may be "there is no safe way". If so, that would be useful to know.

I tried File-> Rename, and provided a new name thinking it would just automatically rename the project and maintain all media links and connections but instead it told me a file in the current folder is in use. I then shut FSP down and tried again and got the same result.

Related question 1:
Is best practice to
1. create a new folder for the newly renamed project
2. copy and paste everything from the old folder to the new folder
3. manually rename all files in the new folder
4. verify that the "new"/renamed project works in all respects
5. delete the original project?

Related question 2:
For safety, can I simply copy and paste all of my project files to a new folder as a backup in case something goes wrong in the renaming attempt?

Are you talking about a song or a project? In terms of song files from experience all I have done in the past is rename the Song file and maybe rename the folder that the whole song was originally in. And then nothing changed for me. Meaning the song just opened up as normal under its new name.

If you attempted any changes while the song was open then it wont allow you to make changes. Make sure it is completely closed before doing what I suggested.

Backing up complete song files is not really necessary unless you want to do that of course.

Thanks, your suggestion partially worked.
I changed the name of the .song file and everything worked fine.
Then I changed the name of a .wav file that was dragged into the project and this is where things went off the rails. An error message came up saying it could't find the .wav file. This was the sort of thing my instincts told me could happen.

I haven't yet changed the folder name in fear of stacking-up multiple/simultaneous problems.

So then I changed the name of the .wav file back to what it was originally and FSP was happy.

Does anyone know where the filename pointers are within the software so I can change it to the new filename I want?

Additionally, I notice there is a "Media" folder containing filenames associated with stem separation and recordings I made. And they all have the original filenames that I was hoping to change so that everything is consistent. This is another hurdle in front of me to obtain a true and complete renaming of my project.

Pretty sure you can rename the .wav files in the pool using the “rename” function. As far as changing the name of the song/session there is a designated rename function in the file menu. Another option is to use the save to new folder command which makes a copy of the song and all of the associated files.

Bingo!! The missing key to the door was the pool.
Worked like a charm.
Thanks.
