How to get the most out of your system performance (CPU/RAM etc.) with Studio One

You can also get some benefit from stopping unnecessary Windows services and background apps. I've created a script for this and it really helps when I need to do a lot of input-monitored tracks.

I would like to add my 2 cents. I put the Performance monitor on, and here is what I noticed about CPU consumption, without even playing the song :
- may I have one VI track readied for record (just readied, not doing any recording), it varies between 40 to 50 (why does it vary while nothing happens, I don’t know).
- may I un-ready this track, consumption drops to half, around 20.
- may I deactivate the track, consumption drops again to half, around 12.

I assume you use a low sample rate for low latency recording and a medium to high setting for cpu dropout protection (= higher sample rate = less cpu consumption)
when you record arm a track it switches to the low sample rate = high cpu consumption
 
If you have to deal with audio cracks and latency, only two things really helped in my case. Everything else was, at the very best, useless.

- Use a core parking app such as ParkControl. That's what solved my latency problem.
- Disable the Core Isolation Memory Integrity in Windows Defender. Not only did it add latency, but it made the whole system not being able to handle audio at all, on a brand new 12600K.

Everything else has practically no impact and a blog post by a Microsoft engineer who used to work on Windows 10 confirmed that.
They admit that, regarding many of the tweaks shared on the Internet, they couldn't tell themselves whether or not they actually worked.

Next time I have to install Windows again, I'd only change the things listed above and see how it goes, and then I'd dig further with MSI-Utility and stuff like that.

I was afraid that Studio One/Studio Pro doesn't use all available CPU cores, as there are other DAWs that do so. Im glad to learn that I wasn't right. The article says: "Studio One supports full multithreading, which means it can use any number of cores which the system has to offer, including dual Xeon CPUs." So my 16-core/32-thread Ryzen 9 seems to be a good investment :)
