Fender Studio Pro 8.1 - Discussion Thread

Yes, seems so. I wasn't able to test it though because I cancelled my subscription and also deinstalled Studio Pro. I maybe come back later if there ever will be a fix. But for everybody with hardware synths, this is the next disappointing release. Seems that we are not in the focus anymore. But I'm fine with this ... there are other DAWs that do not have these problems.

Anyone else not able to use Moises? Initially it stated that I had a 14 day free trial. I could not get it to separate stems. It just created blank tracks. 5 minutes later it tells me that my free trial has expired. Anyone else have this issue? This screen shot is from inside Studio Pro 8.

Frankly, the focus shifts with every release. Composers have been saying for the last three or four feature releases that they weren’t really in focus (which was true). Now, with 8.1, there are several new composition-related features.
So while I understand your disappointment, saying that hardware synth users are no longer in focus is too broad. This specific issue wasn’t addressed in this release.
It's becoming increasingly clear that Fender doesn't understand its customers.
Most of these additions are gimmicks. I don't know a single professional audio engineer who doesn't already own at least one Antares Auto-Tune license, so what's the point of the tuner? And what's with all this AI nonsense?
Pitch curve editing is the only feature here I actually care about.
Meanwhile, Studio Pro still has issues with lost automation during mixdown and Melodyne/ARA dropouts. A DAW is supposed to do work.
I switched to Pro Tools on Mac in February and won't be renewing my license. That's not a decision I made lightly. Studio One was my favorite DAW for seven years. But Fender is slowly dragging it down.
The point is that these delay compensation issues have been reported for years. I myself reported the (confirmed) delay compensation problem with AUX busses two years ago.
I am totally fine with focus shifts from release to release. But I am disappointed when nothing happens even years later. But instead I could now use some crazy new AI stuff and the next third-party AI add-on thing ... That's what I mean with "not in the focus anymore." And that's why my money now goes to a DAW company that does not focus on the next AI gimmick but on improvements and fixes that help me in my daily work.
Maybe I am just the old-fashioned guy but the last thing that I would expect from my DAW is some AI stuff. I make music because I love being creative and putting down my ideas into sound. AI is the complete opposite of creativity.
Well, you can use this AI stuff as technical help at least. Example: We record our band rehearsals and gigs as multitrack with our ui24r digital mixer. In FF Studio Pro I then use stem separation to get cleaner vocal recordings with practically no bleed except for a minimum from other vocal tracks. To support the kick I use the new audio-to-midi tool. I extract the kick and can trigger a supporting kick sound from Superior Drummer with that midi track. What's so bad about that?
Having said that, many VSTi already did some lightweight ai-like stuff beforehand. Think of many of the Toontrack products. And they mostly help you to arrange. And that is how all that Ai stuff in S1 is working AFAICT, at least for now.
And guess what? You don't have to use any of it. And yes I agree, delay compensation should be more important.
Nevertheless: Good luck finding a daw that will not integrate AI in the next couple of years in one way or the other.

AI has been part of audio plugins for years, and plenty of DAWs already offer AI-assisted tools. That's not the issue. I started using it since Neutron in 2016.
The problem is that Fender keeps cramming in gimmicky features while long-standing core issues remain unresolved. Instead of focusing on stability, workflow, and fixing the features professionals actually rely on, they're putting resources into subscriptions nobody asked for in order to generate more recurring revenue.
That's the part I have a problem with.

I wonder how accurate that is for everybody? I think part of that delay is PC / CPU dependent. Maybe I'm wrong.You can also use David Kudell's absolutely great Google Spreadsheet. It includes a lot of libraries and delay values:

This is not system- or CPU-dependent at all. It depends entirely on the instrument engine and the samples.
The question worth asking is whether these values make musical sense for everyone. But that's a musical discussion, not really a technical one.

Like any update, there are features I'll use a lot, features I won't use, little improvements whose full usefulness is seen only in retrospect (like exporting with the session or project name), fixes I appreciate, and fixes that aren't relevant to how I work. Sounds about right for a x.1 release.

I had this issue as well. I'm certainly not going to subscribe to something without an opportunity to try it out first. All attempts to separate stems resulted in failed downloads and then I got the same message that the free trial had ended. Very disappointing.

I'm just now downloading and reading through the release notes. Wow! On my end, there is much to be excited about. @Lukas Thanks for your helpful tutorial videos on the new features. And congratulations to all involved on the 8.1 release!

A decent enough point update though. I'm liking the chord boxes in the score view. Is there any way to just have a chord box summary of the used chords at the top of the first page? It's my preferred lead sheet format.

Btw. As they didn't manage to integrate a process for a full auto update check I can recommend to check the installation for updating the extensions. I often had the problem with new S1 versions where it crashes and crashes and all I had to do was to update the splice plugin or something like that. Don't know why there is no auto check on startup for the additional extensions, this would solve so many problems and user questions.
Will be interesting if the studio assistant ends like the show page, nice idea but useless at some point and left alone forever or if it will be a tool to optimize the workflow for quick results. Actually it seems to me like a search function for the manual and I already got some wrong answers.

I have no problem with integrated AI. That was not the intention of my post. As I said, it is all about focus. And I have a problem if relevant bugfixes are not coming for years, but instead I get a lot of shiny AI features. They just don't fix the timing issues
The PDF manual has not been updated for 8.1.
The online manual has been updated but, for example, when I searched it for "moises" there was just one hit and that one just said that the moises browser tab is where you use moises.
