Faderport... new version soon?

The reason they say that it needs to be on every track is due to a limitation with Softube Fader. If you don't put on the Console plugin, Softube Fader doesn't know about the channel.

BUT, Faderport doesn't care. It recognizes every fader in the Studio One console. The Softube Console only needs a plugin on any track that you want to use Console One on. And, what's nice is that if you have the Console One screen open, pressing the Select buttons on Faderport will bring that channel's Console One display into focus. Likewise, if you hit the channel selectors or solo/mutes or (my favorite) sends on Console One, they are reflected perfectly in both Studio One and Faderport.

Another way of looking at it is Console One is the channel strip that you bring into focus through the Select buttons on Faderport. It's really slick.

As far as the DSP hit of having it on every track. I don't find it a worry. Console One loads up with every section (i.e. preamp, filter, EQ, compressor, Drive, etc) deactivated, and looking at the Studio One Performance Monitor panel, it registers as 00 CPU, same as Mixtool (though, I am on an M4). Of course, as you enable sections in Console One, you get the same kind of DSP hit that you would if you put in a plugin for that function.

BTW, I don't know how the used market works in your area, but in my area (Toronto) there are often used Faderports available. Usually the seller is someone on ProTools or Logic that have integration limitations that we in Studio One don't. That's how I got mine.

Thank you, that does sound very cool!

I want. :)

I want Presonus to make an updated Tascam US2400, but know I’d be the only person to buy it lol.

Never used any of the FaderPort products, but...

I have been very much looking at something that gives me tactile control of faders for real time mix downs back into a master track...using automation on individual tracks within a buss for example, but actual real time fader riding of lead vocals and instrument breaks, just as I/we/they did with large consoles.

Been strongly considering a Neve 8816 with faderpack (or similar) but dang, that's expensive. Just need the faders. Would the Faderport do that?

TY, tonelabaudio! This in an effort to keep the FP8 flat with the laptop keyboard, yet allow best case viewing of those fixed channel meter/indicators. Viewing angle can be set as desired. Wish they'd done that. : )

Older thread -- but I just had to chime in and say what a great idea this is! Thank you for sharing! I have yet to find my ideal setup with the faderport8 -- eager to give this a try. I'll pick up the prism you shared on amazon or similar (unless you've discovered a better alternative?) The LED display really is a source of frustration for me -- which they had designed that better so we wouldn't need to augment with stands or glass prisms!

The past few weeks I'm making a focused effort to use more macros (which has been a game-change/time saver -- I spent years doing things the hard way thinking macros wouldn't be that much of a time-saver. Man -- I was mistaken! So I'm taking that thought process and giving control surfaces another go.

I've got a good decent handle on the atom controllers -- I mainly use them for the pads and writing percussive parts (the atom has some conveniently placed transport buttons I'm constantly using). I'm less smart on the atom sq, but like the pads and knobs are nice for automation.

I'd now like to go deeper with the faderport. I'm way more of a keyboard/mouse user, but I'm evolving. Could be all in my head, but I do find when I get to the stage of volume balancing a mix, I think I get better results using the faderport to start. I want to get more use out of it, as I first bought it out of curiosity to see if it would work for me, and I haven't used it to it's full potential. I'm now glad I held on to it as I considered selling it a few times over the years.

I haven't searched around to see if there are any new features/workflow improvements with the faderport8 and the latest version of S1. Rather than start a new thread, I thought this one might be a good place to check (I'm otherwise happy to start a "faderport tips/tricks/workflow" thread if that would be preferred.

I was having some difficulty syncing my faderport to the console It looks to me (it's been awhile) that the "remote bank" function is still there (I recall needing to press the shift button on the right+all(user) to sync the console and faderport.) And last I checked holding both shift buttons turns the faderport to midi mode (but we can't assign faders from the default cc assignments...)

I've downloaded the manual and will go through that. This is most likely user error but wanted to check just in case.

Is anyone aware of any UpToDate tutorials for faderport and recent versions of S1? Looking for any tips/tricks -- or if nothing has really changed and manual is still relevant -- great!

Appreciate any insight -- and Happy Holidays!

@THW Good morning. So glad to hear that you are giving the FP another go. I recently purchased the FP16 and am enjoying it immensely. To be honest with you I am new to Presonus in general and have my hands full learning my way around both Studio One 7 Pro and the FP16. I am always up for a challenge so I have no complaints. You are right about the display and how it can be frustrating but I am getting used to it. For the life of me I cannot remember what that adhesive is called that runs below the individual faders to label the tracks. Brain freeze! Happy Holidays. By ythe way I found this YT playlist to be helpful with the FP

Hey @tonelabaudio ,

Congrats on picking up the FP16 and great to hear your are enjoying and getting used to it. There is so much to learn in this space, my hands feel full too sometimes, but man I really do enjoy it. It is especially satisfying when having a session, being in the flow and everything "works"...makes the challenge well worth the effort!

Thanks for sharing the Playlist. Exactly the kind of video I was looking for! I am familiar with David's 'Home Studio Recording Made Easy" channel via a video he made when I went down a rabbit hole about SSL channel strips. I think that was during one of my peak GAS eras (though I still love learning amd trying new and good gear, plugins especially πŸ˜†, I don't fall into the marketing hype as much and am more conservative and considerate in my approach to plugins these days.)

I am not sure about that adhesive to label individual tracks. Maybe someone else on here knows?

All the best and Happy Holidays!
-THW

@THW I think that some refer to it as Artists Tape. As seen used on older analog consoles for the last few decades. Something along these lines.

Artist Tape

I've used those removable labels by Avery on different keyboards and devices. I like 'em

We always use white gaffer tape (Nichiban leaves no glue). But painters masking tape works as well (and is way cheaper)..

Hey THW, You're absolutely welcome, and I'm glad the post remained visible. Yeah, the prism works like a charm, really deflecting the image right to your line of sight.

At some point with my over busy life, I have to share a few macros Ive been using for years now. Macros are a serious workflfow enhancer, and its really gratifying to create what works well for you.

Great, I only have the Atom SQ, and its quite cool. For someone such as myself who isn't a formal keyboardist (Im mostly a guitarist, bassist, drummer, but getting to delve into scales and such is wonderful with the Atom SQ. Yes, it's a bit on the clunky side like closing the editor button, to then open the mixer panel and vise-versa. The beauty is, again those added function buttons/banks and macros to the rescue!

Yes, any Faderport is truly spot on. They're like endless encoder knobs, only more tactile and visible.

Ill be glad to bring any points over, without upsetting the flow. I typically dont like to, because its more of respecting nether forum, avoiding any redundant info. Hey, its just as well you posted here!

I'm not aware of any updates as they vary based on the single, 8 ch, and 16 ch FP's at varied times of release. But your questions are visible and should return comments.

Hey, sorry for the delay, I'm setting up a new laptop, for the Studio, and graphic endeavors, I'm just seeing your comments now.
Appreciate any insight -- and Happy Holidays!
Best and Happy to you as well!

Hey! Happy to keep a good thread alive, especially those with good info! I think the faderport continues to deliver, and am really getting attached to it (and macros especially!). If I discover something cool I will certainly share on here. Am always interested in tips, tricks, and learning about folks different workflows. I find it fascinating how we all find our own ways to navigate S1...getting creative to be creative. The workflow efficiencies and learning the daw become its own music adjacent hobby/interest.

Hope the new laptop is running smooth!

I upgraded my pc a few years ago (specs in my signature) and I was thinking about it the other day...as long as everything is working, really dont know what I would upgrade to enjoy any noticeable benefit. I'm not as computer savvy as some folks on here are though, so am curious to know someday. Only thing that came to mind is RAM!

It finally hit me. It's called Scribble Strip Console Tape. As seen here:

Scribble Strip

And by the way. All the best to FP users around the world. Health and happiness always.

Nah, I did something really stupid. When preparing the installs for Studio One, libraries and such, I inadvertently synced with One Drive. I realized this because all of a sudden, my cell phone and One drive space maxed out. I'm not a fan of cloud saves where pairing a pc and cell phone come into play. The whole thing is so invasive and opens one up to potential identity theft. So I deleted things and now my new laptop which is awesome, is wonky at the moment. All in good time, I'll re install everything over when I get time. I'm so side tracked at the moment with things, but such is life. Enjoy, and keep up the good spirit my friend. Enjoy the Faderport!

I’ve been getting a lot more mileage out of the FaderPort lately after watching the playlists suggested on here. Thank you!

I had some initial questions about Studio Pro compatibility, but so far it’s been smooth. Anyone seeing anything different?

Keeping it lighthearted:
