Free Extension (scripts package) for orchestral scoring

Hi, I’ve been working on orchestral mockups in Studio One for quite a while, and more recently in Fender Studio Pro. I was missing quite a few simple tools, which I initially handled with an external application that communicated with Studio One through the Files tab. Eventually, though, I managed to move pretty much all of that functionality, feature by feature, into a package file that can run directly from Fender Studio Pro.

I thought that at least some of these features might be useful to others as well, so thanks to Lukas for making this possible, I’d like to invite you to take a look at the extension’s website, where you’ll find a somewhat more detailed description and the download link for the newest version of the package:

Gades MIDI Toolbar

One important disclaimer right away: I’m using this extension with Fender Studio One 8.2, and so far it has only been tested on one computer (mine). So please keep in mind that something may not work as expected or could potentially cause problems. I also can’t promise any actual support, as this is purely a hobby project that I work on in my spare time :)

And here one screenshot of the toolbar:

New update of the package:
  • Dynamic Flow for creating simple "triangle" flow of CC for selected long notes (not perfect, but works ;) )
  • Simplify functions: remove "steps" on CC lines, remove duplicates
  • new Pitch Velocity function (similar to Expressive Velocity, but based only on note's pitch)
  • new selections based on current selected note's velocity (higher, equal and lower velocity select)

New update of the package:
  • Fixed Expand Basso Continuo (now correctly recognizes and applies the key of the song)
  • Added Selector and Selector Again (select notes or controller points by combining several criteria); Select Velocity Lower / Equal / Higher are now presets of the Selector
  • Fixed Baroque/Romantic Trills (note lengths now adjust to the current tempo for low BPM)
  • Fixed Dynamic Flow (removed a confusing alert)

There's plenty of useful stuff (Live Selector tool!) even for casual users but the integration is scary. Fender needs to find a better solution for its toolbar/action menu GUI.

Yes, I agree. So, I’ve prepared a fix in which the Gades MIDI Toolbar commands are hidden in the Actions menu but can still be found with the Ctrl+K shortcut:

Yes, looks much better now.

Two nitpicks with the Live selector tool:
- Values can't be changed via mouse wheel. (The mouse wheel works for sliders and also for values in the MIDI toolbar.) It helps with small adjustments since the length/resolution of the sliders is limited.
- If I switch to another event and want to apply the same selection to it then I need to change and revert something to trigger it. A "Select again" button would be better.

Actually, you're right — those small changes are worth implementing, and the latest version already supports them. Scrolling over the input fields changes the values one step at a time, while scrolling over the slider shifts the range. The "Select" button applies the current settings to the notes in the editor. :)
