I guess this is both a tip and a trick. I am on a PC using S1 v6 and, I know it's fussy, but it has bugged me that, in Piano Roll view, I could not guarantee I was drawing a straight line. I thought there would be a command key combination that would constrain the line. I could never find it. However, what I did find, that gives me truly straight line every time, is to draw my line along the bottom of the scale. Then keeping the left mouse button down, press Ctrl-Alt and move the mouse up. The line will rise through the scale and be completely straight. Release the mouse button and voila! you have a straight line.
