Atom SQ selecting plugin preset issue with Impact

Steps to Repro:

Add Instrument track:

Input = whatever
Output = IMPACT

Bring up the plugin window for Impact (make sure it is in focus).

On the Atom SQ, hold down the shift button, and spin the right screen encoder (dial to the right of the display).
Notice Presets will be selected, try spinning the dial up and down, loading presets etc, it will work at first, and then eventually it will get laggy, and you will no longer be able to select a Preset. I appreciate these presets can take a long time to load up, but waiting for them doesn't get me anywhere..

You can getting it working again by changing the plugin preset with your mouse, or closing and opening the plugin window, but going back to the dial, it will soon freeze up again. Try turning this dial for about a minute if you find difficulty reproducing.

I've only been able to reproduce this in Impact/Atom SQ/latest Fender Pro software.
SQ is on latest drivers and firmware. Windows 11 is the latest.

Can anybody else reproduce please?

Thankyou....

Yes. I have reproduced this exactly as described.
Although the consistent "cause" seems to simply be turning the dial fast (which of course one wants to do at times). When I stick to turns of about 4-dial clicks per second or below it maintains cohesion.

Thanks, I think this is an impact issue with SQ as I can't reproduce it with other plugins (Studio One coding issue and/or Impact regardless) OR it could be with any large preset that takes a long time than usual to load.

...For what it's worth, I find this issue with any sample based instrument. I get the same "laggy" fast dial thru presets behavior in SampleOne, the heavier sample based sounds in Presence (for example the strings), Cinematic Lights, and Lead Architect.
And in Mojito and MaiTai it just rips thru the presets with no hesitation when spinning the dial fast.
This makes perfect sense to me. Any presets with larger samples are going to take a second or so, and if you've just called on, say, 20 presets in fast succession with a swirling dial, it's gonna take some time.

Right. But with the Atom SQ (and only repro'd with impact so far) when it takes some time it just stops working altogether (as per steps first post, I assume that's what you validated).

Also there could be better behaviour, i.e. the preset doesn't load until a few seconds of dial inactivity which would allow us to flip through. Maybe that could be a preference setting (or even cancel the loading of a preset, although I doubt that's possible).

Sorry. Yes, I see what you're saying. You are right. In Impact it gets completely bogged down and doesn't recover without the "help" like you suggest, whereas in the others one simply has to wait a little bit and it "catches up"

Bug is still reproducible in 8.0.2

Also I've noticed an additional oddity.
I was testing it with impact just now, added an instrument track with it etc, reproduced the bug, and then I undid everything starting from scratch.

I then added a new instrument track with addictive drums 2 to see how the SQ would handle this situation. AD2 shows no presets (not sure if that's supposed to or not, I'll create another thread about it as it's a general question), regardless I held down shift on the SQ and twisted the dial, and this is the oddity... it came up with the previous Impact preset (in my case "Shuffle Away Kit". That certainly should not happen, impact isn't even installed at this stage.

Weird! I have AD2 as well and might give it a go when I'm back in the studio...

Thx. I forgot to say after testing impact initially I reproduced the non functional preset wheel issue, and then I undid absolutely everything and then did the AD instrument track as explained.

What I haven't tried is to see if it happens before impact preset wheel stops working or with any other Studio Pro plugins. Maybe when impact presets stops working when twisting the dial, there is some sort of internal crash and the last preset just hangs around in memory afterwards.

Have you reported this, with repro steps, to support?

Nope not yet. I'm discussing it here first to make sure it's comprehensive (just as well I found some other issue with it today). It's been repro'd by somebody else so I regard that as validated.

BTW doesn't support monitor these forums? I'm lazy (well I'll be honest it's just having the time) it's just more work to do (but I will do it, not complaining).

No, support does NOT monitor these forums

I am now on 8.0.2 as well and cannot reproduce the full hang situation with Impact .
In the video you see Impact moving through its presets as I Shift-turn the ATOM dial, slowly at first and then rapidly to the end and back again. It would bog down at times, yes, but I simply had to wait a bit (let go of Shift and then repress, not sure if that mattered) and it continued to work.

With AD2 I actually only have one S1/FSB preset, so it was not really testable. It does not cylcle through the built in AD2 plugin presets, but I did not expect that to happen.

I'll double check again. I'll walk away for 3 minutes and see what happens.

Couldn't see the image btw.

Oh it's a video, YouTube maybe.
