Windows Latency nightmare with kb:5074109

If that is your only logical checkpoint to determine an optimal Windows 11 system in 2026 - I guess I need to tap out here.

It is fascinating that millions of others are all well on the other side of these January patches and yet - only you appear to have issues.

Continued success with your machine.

VP

Er nope, that is nothing to do with it being optimal, that is proof that Windows 11 can run on it perfectly well, and it usually does fantastically well, and so does Linux and Catalina and two other copies of Windows installed on the same machine.

….and I'm sorry but I don't I don't know why you are here if you can't test Windows 11 (latest updates) with an NVidia card and latencymon, which is clearly what I'm asking for here.

Well - its a public forum. Maybe just be OK with that.

We are all clear on what you are asking for - but it's only you asking for it. And you were the one using the phrase "Nightmare".

No one else seems to have an issue (so far) here. Might be a sign.

Now we are getting somewhere. Someone who "gets" the conversation and drops the right tools into it.

ParkControl - does so much for power (that you cannot actually see via the Win 11 interface).

It is critical to getting latency under control on Windows 11

VP

My machine has core parking off, that's been basic 101 for decades, and this:

Now can we stop going down this rabbit hole, I could write a 20 page essay on Windows and hardware optimization if you like.
I'm the OP and I'm hoping somebody might want to test NVidia/latest Windows updates with LatencyMon.

Really really sorry I used the word "Nightmare", which it has been for me.
But I'll learn to do better next time, I'll be doing an apology tour around the forums very soon for mentioning this very word, and maybe I'll be off to church to have my sins forgiven (although it's not really my sort of thing). Bad boy!

Fair enough. But to replicate your scenario - "someone" is going to need to find 8 year old PC parts and test it out.

Why would you instantly think that your scenario would apply to anyone else - especially if they have much more modern gear?

All I am saying is Win 11, modern mobo/CPU/RAM and NVidia are a very common combo round these parts and no one else has said anything thus far.

I tested here 10 minutes ago - minus the NVidia of course and I cannot see anything out of the ordinary

While I suppose there could be an NVidia issue here (anything is certainly possible) a lack of more urgent "problem" threads - is odd to me.

If this was a thing - it usually presents as a thing - quickly.

Good lord, do you ever stop?

I'm just here asking if somebody has Windows 11/latest Windows 11/NVIdia card with latest drivers and would they mind testing their system as it appears there is a serious issue with the latest Windows update and state their graphics card.

If they have the same issue, then they have the same issue, if they don't they don't.
If they don't test they don't test. Fine.

If they do have the same issue, maybe we can compare notes.
Apparently MS has screwed up most NVidia cards with this latest patch and this is widely reported.

Now how hard is this to understand?
If you aren't prepared to do this and don't have an NVidia card, why are you still here hijacking my thread?

I have an NVIDIA and the latest W11 updates (including KB5074109) and I have no issues with latency nor is latencymon reporting issues.
nvlddmkm.sys (Version 581.80) is the highest reported DPC routine with an execution time of (µs): 689,424377.

FWIW KB5074109 is present on my system and I don't see abnormal behaviour. KB5074109 is not related to graphic drivers either, so I doubt

Thanks, that is helpful. Any idea of the model of the card? (Just curious, I'm updating my signature now I notice I have this missing too).

I'm running a later NVidia driver it seems, 582.28, I doubt it will make any difference but I could try your driver.
Normally I get nvlddmkm.sys highest execution of 383.996667µs (well less than that until recently, but I'm happy with that).

Now every five or ten minutes it blows up to 14274.046667µs, more research required I guess.
Thx!

Why the heck was this thread moved to "the lounge", it's far from a "casual discussion", this is a troubleshooting thread!
... and people using Studio One and NVidia cards need a heads up to see if they are effected with this issue (or not).

It's a GT1030

To rule out the driver, you could try that. The only tweak I use is a custom DAW power scheme setting (basically high performance) and C-states disabled in the BIOS.

Yeah same as me

Wow I thought I had the least powerful NVidia card in the world with a 1070!

They are both ten series cards so this is good feedback thankyou.

Hi, I have an NVidia card. I just downloaded LatencyMon and ran it. At first it was reporting positive but after 22 minutes I noticed this:

Not sure what to make of this. I realize this probably isn't helpful to Number6, but if anyone cares to enlighten me, I'm all ears. If not, just ignore.

Thx.

Were all applications closed whilst running latencymon?
wdf01000.sys is Windows driver framework, it doesn't really give much away, one of your drivers is slow.

If no other apps were running, the best course of action is to optimize Windows as much as possible if you haven't already. Latest drivers, latest servics, disable unnecessary windows services, configure bios, C states, disable speedstep and turbo, oh and disable devices you don't use (maybe an HDMI audio driver for instance). Optimize your antivirus.... How long is a piece of string really, I can't offer a magic wand solution, there are lots of things you can apply if you google around, it's quite a large subject but there is some basic stuff you can do.

It's not the same issue I'm having. HDAudBus.Sys may be related to realtek drivers? Either way check your motherboard website for downloads, that looks like your internal audio on the motherboard (I have that disabled as I use my external audio interface).

And yet I've been running with motherboard with zero latency issues until now, in fact really really good, and like I say this Windows update and NVidia issue is well reported and as you ask...

... but hey I guess I don't know what I'm doing.
Perhaps I should boot into the hackintosh partition to see what things are like in Catalina next?
Or maybe into Linux?

it's this kinda crap Windows does is why I ran away from it. I want to do Music not be troubleshooting
and messing around with an OS that is basically trash IMO for Music. You obviously know what you you are
doing and yet having all this trouble
. Who knows tho, maybe something simple is being overlooked
or hiding in plain sight?? I figure I'll get trashed by the Windows guys that get along just fine but I don't
care after all the stupid crap over and over that Windows put me through. Since I been running Mac (2011)
all is good, life is good making music, my heart rate and overall health is good. Yeah, I know, little dramatic
but so true.
Good Luck, I do hope you get it sorted 🖖

This thread has been hijacked enough, please don't turn this into a Mac Vs Windows debate...please.... And besides my machine is also a Hackintosh and Linux wins.

It's an opinion not a Hijack. Maybe the issue's here...the 3 cousins don't get along...lol

It's an opinion that has absolutely nothing to do with my thread, and therefore is a hijack, and as I say, Linux wins! SO THERE!

But it absolutely positively does...lol. If the Mod's say I hijacked the thread then so be it. They can remove it. Otherwise
in my eyes it's a simple Opinion. At least I got VP off your rear end, lol. Again, good luck getting it sorted 🖖

I don't hold up much hope, the Mods moved what was originally a serious troubleshooting thread, into this place after multiple hijack attempts that worked.

Anyway things appears to have settled down with latencymon (edit - it's been OK for over 15 mins now), which is odd. It ain't a schedule task or a windows service running overtime.

Frankly I don't care any more about posting this here anymore, and trying to have a simple and serious discussion with other users in common, this thread has now been trashed to bits with others who wanted to talk about completely different (or telling me I'm doing it wrong with nothing to point to)... So thanks (y).

Real thanks to those few who actually helped, by comparing notes with me, which is all I wanted.
