Why does Studio One automatically try to predict the tempo of audio files I drag in?

Yes. I also work on audio for commercials. Many sound effects appear rhythmic, but they don't actually require tempo infomation. For example, the train you mentioned is one example. Bicycles, knocking doors, footsteps, clocks, whooshes—these don't require tempo either. Yet, Studio One often detects tempo for them.
Yep, would be easy to have a key you hold down if you WANT tempo recognition. I wouldn’t even be mad if you‘d have to hold down a key of you DON‘T want it, I just want a flexible option. Because sometimes I don’t bother setting up „don‘t follow“-tracks etc

I agree with you; setting a single preference for so many features isn't a big deal. In fact, compared to Cubendo, Studio One's advanced settings are still very simple, and I wouldn't mind having more options.
