Where are my Automation lanes?

A question about Automation lanes...
If I record an instrument track, then 'write' some automation onto that track, I can separate out the automation tracks by clicking the little sinewave icon at the bottom left of the track header.
However, if I record the track and the automation at the same time, the sinewave icon doesn't separate out the automation tracks. The automation still works, and I can see the automation envelopes overlaid on the instrument track, but they won't break out. Also, in Automation mode (press 'A') they aren't shown in the dropdown that usually shows a list of automated controls.
I can edit the midi notes and the automation envelopes in the Edit screen, so it's all there and editable, but I can't separate them out in the main Arrange screen in the same way that I can with automation that I record afterwards.
Is there a way to get these 'simultaneously recorded automations' to behave in the same way as separately recorded ones?

Welcome to the forum!

Yes, if you record things like pitch bend or MIDI CCs, this is stored as Part Automation. That means the automation is embedded within the instrument part, together with the note data. It’s common practice to edit MIDI CCs alongside the note data.

There’s no way to fully separate part automation into the arrangement. However, you can select the automation points, copy them, and paste them onto an automation lane in the arrangement.
