What are your 5 most used VST (Not PreSonus)?

How about Mac users? They may use AU. 😁
They shouldn't ;-) But yeah, the correct term would be "plug-ins".

My TOP 5 instrument plug-ins:

- Kontakt
- Omnisphere
- Addictive Drums
- Cherry Audio Blue3
- OP-X PRO-II

Effect plug-ins:

- Soundtoys bundle
- Valhalla Vintage Verb & Shimmer
- NI Replica
- Izotope RX
- Liquid Sonics Seventh Heaven

Hive2
Zebra Legacy
Repro1
Repro5
Roland Cloud Zenology
AAS VA3 (CPU hungry🧐)
I'm not a pro user. Only at weekends but love them and their sounds.

For some that might be Notator, Dorico or other music notation programs. That being one option.
Its all a very personal choice.

I'd venture to say many composers irregardless of their fornal or nonformal background would trigger sounds first from their preferred instruments, developing notation after. Some, myself included play various instruments along while tracking. Be it hardware synths, guitars, drums, bicycle spokes, what-have-you. ; )

It wouldn't be the first time I said its all clay. So I do think asking about "VST's" kind of offsets what answers you might be hoping for.

"What instruments......and your preferred genre(s)..... " would have eeked out some more related responses, me thinks.

As Ari mentioned AU is a common Mac instrumemt/plugin standard and we have a lot of Mac folks here!

Just mentioning this stuff, so in the future it may help. Yeah, its pretty cool to hear what others are doing, have accomplished, as we often only get to hear how they assist others. Its a mixed crowd (wonderfully), and that makes this forum an excellent resource for each of us in one way or another.
Cheers, Jeff!

As for me, I adore Jazz, and really most every genre except hip-hop. I'm also big synth fan from way back so DAW's allowed me to incorporate so much of what I love to do! Make and play music, and get involved in all production aspects. Lately, I'm exploring ambient, but mixing it up with a 70's progressive element. That and cinematic themes.
Everyone here has a cool story. 😎
Well since this is a Studio One site, I was just wondering what set of software instruments that operate within SO they use. As you can see in my sig I still have my stage piano and I often look to it when thinking about sounds I want. Mac's are tools that many people choose but have not there been a lot of issues with AU in Studio One? It looks like there is an amazing variety of tools used. Just think of the complexity of the computer driven electronic music systems (and I know that lots of folks use "real" instruments and vocals with SO). I too have an affinity for cinematic themes.

Yes. We sometimes say that VSTs are for Windows while AUs are for Mac, but you can run VST2 and VST3 plugins on Mac as well. I think theres a performance gain avoiding AU. They can also run AAX (Avid Audio eXtention for Pro Tools).

Indeed, Studio One has its own set of excellent instruments and plugins. Things like the Multi Dynamics compressor are downright excellent for final mixes, and/or mastering. The Open Air convolution reverb is not only a tremendous and realistic sounding reverb, but you can also load your own IR's with it. This makes my Open Air reverb a Bricasti-like modeled reverb when I select 3rd party Bricasti impulse response reverb clips for it. Thats pretty amazing. Presonus have kept their DAW not only in the mix, but in a lot of ways at the forefront of competing DAW's. Their hardware is also competitive, particularly with live performances.
The Pro EQ is also an excellent tool now with its dynamic compression/expansion. Add to that a channel splitter and there's really little need to look elsewhere for fx plugins.
The Instrument tools can be coaxed into being very good. Even if some need more, its all very accessible to do so.

Way to go!
