Here is a thing which to quote AI is "maddening".
It is a thing with the Quantum HD8.
Which UC changed the name of Software Returns to "USB" (which seems to indicate where they are intended to go out to) rather than "DAW" (which is where they come from and was the convention used by Presonus).
What's maddening? They have REMOVED the ability to rout the software returns out of the DAW for outputs 5-6 and 7-8. Studio One will still let you assign some created stereo outputs to 56 out and 78 out, but you can't get them as mixing channels (USB label is the default, here in the screenshot I have it changed to DAW) in the Universal Control Mixer.
There is an option in the settings, to select "ANALOG" instead of Analog + ADAT. If ANALOG is selected you can witness these software returns out of Studio one, controlling their volumes by adding a gain plugin and you can mix them up and send them to a select number (not all) of the interface's outputs).
Yes, I said "Not all" because the silly UC will no longer let you use the send matrix to send anything to ADAT in this "analog" mode.
So you either get all 8 of your outputs using ANALOG, which sacrifices the routing to ADAT, or you use ANALOG + ADAT and sacrifice the control of your elected Studio One outputs.
I swear the people who designed this software are the bastards of the world. Absolute cretins.
I included a screenshot with AI's generated simple question for the 'support', the particular situation with my i/o setup in S1, the UC panel showing the available situation with the mixer. At the top of the mixer you see the send matrix at the top of every channel. Along about the right you see the 4 mono daw (usb) tracks you can only have in this mode. Of course you could use the butthead "Loopback" labelled returns for your 78 if you can find them. Or you can do what I did before and run the ADATs out to your other interface's ADATs in. Which can get you your 5-8 there.
The whole thing is just a big big waste of an interface cause of the bastards designing it.
