One more tip...for vocal doubling, copy the vocal track before doing pitch correction. Do pitch correction to only one of the tracks, then mix them together. The effect is more randomized than using LFO modulation for ADT. If you sing so in tune that you get flanging and such, then drop the copy by 10 cents or so.
I use Dreamtonics Synth V to create rehearsal mock-ups for rock choir work, and since the change to V2 of that software made pitch control a little more problematic, I use Melodyne to calm some of Synth V's wilder variations. I use exactly the technique you describe to create doubles (and indeed many more voices) and it works a treat.
