I really wish Melodyne had a pencil tool for drawing pitch, but luckily I found that Waves Tune (the old version, not Waves Tune Real Time) has a pencil tool that works really well. The plugin was released in 2006, so it's old and only $35 for a perpetual license. You can use it for the "pencil edits" you need to do, and then bring the audio into Melodyne for the heavier-duty pitch edits. (The Auto-Tune Pro plugin also has a pencil tool, but it's way more expensive.)
Of course Waves Tune doesn't have ARA, but insert it as an Event effect, and play back the audio. After making your edits, render the Event.
