Third Party plugin Problems

Hi, new here

I just joined because – Ongoing problems, needed a (hopefully) good place to ask some questions.

I think anyone even reading all this deserves a thanks, so you get that in advance!

Studio One Pro v 7.2.3.108761
Windows 11

Preface – I had some of the same plugin problems with S1 on my old computer, got a new PC and figured a fresh start with all new plugin installations and authorizations (Ilok, UA Connect, Waves Central etc.) would fix the problem(s)

The pre-existing problem (on the old PC) was with IK Multimedia Amplitube and also Tonex plugins. There worked for several years, and then they didn’t… the plugin GUIs worked but on first launch when adding to a track it would default to [Amp 1 – whatever] – and I could visually change amps and other items (add pedals, change cabinets etc) but the changes had no effect on the sound – the plugin would pick up the default sound on the default amp, but the sound would not change using on-screen amp controls (volume, tone etc) and no matter what amp was chosen the sound would stay on Default [Amp 1]

I had a good bit of back and forth with IK on removing files from inclusion in One Drive, reinstalls, possibly anti virus interference etc. None of that worked, so I just stopped using it.

In the meantime other plugins / separate installations such as Guitar Rig 7 and Neural DSP Tone King and Morgan Amps worked fine, as did all other plugins (Instruments such as Slate Drums, Addictive keys, UVI workstation etc)

Fast forward to new computer – I uninstalled OneDrive completely, and have no antivirus installed at all except what comes built in Windows.

After installing S1 and all plugin packages, Amplitube and Tonex work on tracks they were already on in songs, but when dropped on a track net-new, it has the same non-effect on sound as on the old PC – defaults to [Amp1] .

Then I discovered that this also was now affecting UAD Paradise Guitar Studio, which worked last week, and now has the same behavior as Amplitube. (i.e. The kicker is that, before I bought the package, I had individually bought and installed several other UAD amp Sims (Ruby, Woodrow, Showtime). These work just fine. They are in the same file locations as the Paradise Studio plugin

So – because this is >1 vendor, and affects several different plugins the same way, I figure it has something to do with Studio one (or Windows) but I have no idea where to go from here to troubleshoot further – did complete uninstalls, even manually cleaned out registry entries related to Amplitube, uninstalled the plug in specific manager apps, reinstalled S1, Au connect, and all plugins to no effect.

Also of note: the stand alone version of Amplitube works just fine.

Sounds to me like there is something NOT being done. Like clicking the Monitor button on a track so you can actually hear the FX. AND remember all of these products are effect Inserts - not instruments - so they need to be placed as such.

Using v7.2.3 over here daily with GR7, S-Gear and other sims - no issues at all.

Would be helpful to see an actual screencap of your screen - right after dropping Amplitude or Tonex ONTO a new mixer channel (remember this is an insert) and not dropping it on a track - so we can see what you see.

I've been using studio one for at least 5 years so mostly I know how to put effect plugins on and monitor a track.* (If I didn't I wouldn't know I was getting sound produced by one plug in and not for another). But let me know if you'd like to see something specific. Below is how I left the test set up, Amplitube would have been the first on the list, then tonex, but I added and removed various just for testing, with only 1 on at a time

Oh you are brilliant - Just thinking about coming up with more info for you about the situation and testing, I thought of testing not while monitoring live recording, but actually recording then messing with the plugins/settings on playback and I found...
changing plugin settings and amps on playback works as it should. (even when I can't hear those sounds while recording, which has pretty much stopped me from using these plugins, but it also explains why songs that already had these plugins still work and can be edited just fine.)

*So it is some kind or monitoring problem! Any idea how several plugins on the same song and track would work for recording and monitoring, but others consistently do not work for monitoring the sounds produced by the active plugin on the same track?

Side note - I had gone as far as installing Fender pro to test and had the same issue with the same plugins, then uninstalled and reinstalled S1 also. And swapped out my interface from ID24 back to Studio24c (and back again when that did nothing)

Thanks for your feedback!

The "green Z" disabled all plugins that add more than 3 ms of latency. Try disabling low latency monitoring (green Z) and see if that fixes it..

And - any specific reason you need 8 sims on a single channel?

Can we just test with one to solve your original post?

SOLVED!!! Thank you! I totally came to the right place. I have Low Latency monitoring on pretty much all the time, and that was one little fact I missed, and didn't even know that's what i should be looking for information on.
