The Fender Studio Pro App Icon is a Design Disaster

The Fender Studio Pro app icon is a design disaster:
  • It's so small that it's hard to read the text inside
  • It doesn't even match Fender's own brand guide
  • I could not name many other app icons with its company name in it
  • It looks pretty stupid next to the other icons on the desktop
Could we get our old, well-known and well-designed iconic icon back (pun intended)?
  • Keep the original, well recognized shape and design
  • Apply Fender red color, see brand and color guide
  • The gap in the icon can be black or white
This design is a Win-Win: It would retain the original, well-known shape and heritage of the Studio One, combining it with Fender colors that hint at a new era.

PS1: Sorry for the simple mockup, I'm not a GFX designer.
PS2: I never thought I would ever write about a topic like this... 😇

Not sure it's possible for any single icon to be a "disaster". That's a strong word for so few pixels. Can't say I've ever given it a second look.

As for keeping the Presonus icon but just changing the colour, never in a month of Sundays was that going to happen.

I would consider it more of a missed opportunity to smooth the transition to Fender's ownership among loyal Studio One users - just enough to indicate a difference, but without rejecting the past. As a recovering CMO, I can attest that logos and app icons are taken very, very seriously by most companies. Also, they rarely rely on text, preferring instead fo make a simple, strong graphic statement.

An app icon has to work at a glance, especially when it’s surrounded by other audio tools on the desktop. Readability and recognizability are key. The Studio One 7 icon was instantly recognizable. The Fender Studio Pro icon is basically just blue with some (too much) text that’s hard to identify at small sizes.

I thought it was a good idea because I still have Studio one 7 installed. I had zero issues instantly recognizing the difference between the two Icons.
It’s the difference in colours that we recognize. I have all my Daw’s lined up across the top of my second monitor.
If they had kept the same design I would have had a problem remembering which version was which. As it is I can tell the difference in a split second.
It’s a good thing Reapers icon is instantly recognized because its scythe looks a lot like the Fender F.

Lol those Fender design guidelines

„
RED IS FENDER.

RED SYMBOLIZES POWER, ANGER, DANGER“

I‘m not sure if anger or danger is anything I want in a DAW

The main problem is the font they use. The initial F character. It looks more like the number 7.
that not a font, that‘s the Fender logo since 1949

My only complaint is that the Fender logo is so small in the App icon. I can barely see it ;)
