Given the responses towards the name, I'd say a lot of folks are both curious why, and perhaps even a little taken back. Of course some wont care. Its certainly going to come up. I mean after all..... it is being asked why.Wow so many moans about the name! Who gives a flying fader about the name of their DAW

I'm just getting familiar with Studio One 7. I see that this is a paid upgrade. Do I have to upgrade to Fender Studio Pro? Is there a time period coming up in the future when I will have to change? Will Studio One 7 continue to get updates?

No requirement for you to do anything at this time. Or ever if that is your thing.

S1 has been my main DAW since around 2015 or so.
I cringed when I saw the name change....first reaction was that it's time for me to finally Crossgrade to Cubase.
I updated earlier today from V7 (perpetual license, have never done the subscription...not interested in that.)
Initially, my user account showed that I was ineligible for the upgrade as I had purchased V7 over a year ago...however, I purchased a Quantum HD8 late last year and recalled that it came bundled with a license I hadn't activated. So, I sent a short note to customer support and within 15 minutes my account was updated and eligible for the update.
I updated accordingly and was also pleasantly surprised to see some Eventide/NewFangled Audio plugins I didn't have, along with some other nice third party offers. Nice.
I've only spent a couple hours in the latest version, but my experience has been overwhelmingly positive. It's a bit jarring to see "Fender" plastered all over the place, but to me that's not a big deal (though the desktop/taskbar icon change (I'm on Windows) threw me off a bit). I play guitar quite a bit -- but I don't feel like this is now first a DAW for guitarists -- it feels like the S1 I've used the past 9-10 years with an update.
My personal favorite highlights after a couple hours of clicking around (no particular order):

- I like the "quality of life" improvements and look of the DAW. I'm a fan of the arrangement and channel editors/overviews. Excited to experiment with that as I think there is a lot of creative workflow potential there. Add macros and awesome scripts like scoring tools and it does whatever I want. I read about missing/"ignored" feature requests...honestly I don't fully understand some of them, so not going to comment there.
- I love the updates to the metronome.
- Single click to open vsts in the console - Love it (did confuse me at first)
- Looking forward to trying out the new fx.
Updates to SampleOne and Impact are welcome. - I'll miss the look of "red light distortion".
- Old projects/templates loaded w/ no issues.

Indeed. The new name admittedly tripped me up. Another sort of blindness is how does a whole new name jump to eight? What, Fender has made seven previous versions of Fender Studio Pro? The whole premise is like a salesman sticking their foot in the door (or is is DAW) and saying Hi Wilma, Fred isn't here anymore. Care to get in that lacy leapeard lingerie tonight? You can even call me Freddie if you like.
OK, that was admittedly dramatic, but I think you can see my point.As others who have been with this DAW for quite some time, built and invested on it hoping for some new and even saught after improvements, get yet again....... more sizzle than they do steak. Quite honestly, I applaud the users here dripping with their passion, than the Fender core pushing their will and guitar crowd into what they see as a more useful product . If Presonus was in a position to potentially tank, then by golly, Fender better not be looking up and whistling in the other direction as if they had nothing to do with it. Yeah, yeah, I heard it was the Hamburg crowd with ideas to improve the Fender Studio app. Anyone who believes that was the sole reason to give it all to Fender, I've got some ice to sell them in Alaska.
Something nice to say? I know that same Hamburg crowd, if given the right set of criteria, could be brilliant with making Studio One (that's right, "Studio One") a top tier DAW. Only their marching orders are still coming from that same guy who wanted a one page startup manual (remember that one?) because he couldn't work through the process himself. These arent bullet strings. So, now we get a whiz-bang Fenderians, you can do it too, DAW.
Excuse me peeps, but the new name is undoubtedly pretentious.
To those not worried about a name, I didnt mean to ruffle your feathers. Spend the next six years still waiting on the many features some others have legitimately asked for and got oo gots. Then you might start to see the larger picture. Then again, maybe you won't

Yeah that part makes actually zero sense.
First developer that's so good they can actually skip 7 full releases and go straight to version 8!

Honestly, this discussion never ceases to amaze me. I mean, if this software was called Studio One 8 (which, effectively, that's what it is) and not Studio Pro 8, would that be OK?
Guys, it's a simple slight name change. Fender have owned Presonus since 2021. Has everything been OK since then?
I know people will moan at every new version, but this is too much.

People are panicking because of the way the icon looks like, it's getting ridiculous.
As far as I can tell, Pro Tools is still in a lot of studios despite being called Avid Pro Tools.

The protestations about the name and Fender's input are overdone. The DAW is Fender's property and has been for 5 years. They're entitled to call it whatever they like. You may argue with the marketing logic, but FLStudio, Live, Pro Tools, Cubase and many other DAWs have all gone through name changes in the past, often - but not always - because of new ownership. Fender aren't even 'new' owners. The logic (sorry!) of using '8' in the name is obvious; to emphasise that it is a continuation of the Studio One line that had reached version 7 - and, on opening v8, it's bloody obvious that it's the same product and not a fork of Fender Studio.
By all means criticise the product, but losing your shit over the name is wasted energy!

It is. At the time of the release of version 1.0, it already had that name. When I was beta-testing 1.0, it was already "Studio One".
Those were really nice, almost family-like times. Matthias (the developer and father of Studio One - still head of development today) would hang out with us in the evenings, we'd have a few drinks and celebrate. At some point he asked me if anything was bothering me in Studio One, and I said yes, there needed to be an "All Inputs" option for MIDI Inputs ("Instrument Inputs" in Studio One terms). Back then, you could only select exactly one single input device. He was like "Yeah, that makes sense"… and the next (slightly hungover) morning I had a new beta version in my inbox with the "All Inputs" option added. Suddenly I could play using all my connected synths. Not a super exciting story, but those were the early days - and really good memories.
