Studio One Pro Update Releases?

Yes, I was a Cakewalk Sonar user too!

Any general "discussion" about PreSonus/S1 has been mostly fake for years now. It all started when PreSonus introduced an alternative subscription model and it got worse when Fender bought PreSonus. That ignited the hate/rage as if PreSonus (the beloved underdog) had betrayed them. Any nonsense "argument" or lie was welcomed and amplified by mutual escalation and affirmation. Minor facts worth discussing were blown out of proportion as if PreSonus has become the most evil company in the world.

Arnd Kaiser wrote shortly before PreSonus closed the old forum. I paraphrase: "S1 was never offered as a subscription only version. But people write here as if the perpetual model was already dead or will be for sure in the near future. It hasn't happened for several years now and if people still want to believe that then I can't do anything about it."

The subscription "discussion" is still alive but any topic is suitable for abuse. No forum is spared by the same people with almost identical posts: KVR(!)/Reddit/VI and of course this forum.

So, what's the latest topic "deserving" of rage: PreSonus "promised" "4" "major" updates "within a year of release" because people did not buy V7 instantly after release because of it's announced features but because of some unknown updates. Of course, buying instantly is also the most rational thing to do even though updates are only provided for one year and some initial features are barely usable due to bugs (as always). When updates are published then the release notes are not reposted in full but shortened or reduced to one item to "prove" the "promised" "major" update is nothing but.

My take: V7 is okay. Many feature requests dating back 5+ years were implemented. The producer/beatmaker crowd waited a long time for this and I like quite a few of them although I'm not a beatmaker. I always buy my perpetual update late and during sale so nothing has changed for me.

Tim, and VP. Good points and I get the concern of what really seems to be crickets chirping behind the curtain. That's never good, even when we opt to keep what we are using currently for another year or so.
As I am admittedly guessing, Cinematic Lights, Deep Flight One and Sub Zero Bass were almost a direct knock-off of Lead Architect (or whatever the original one was).
That's like throwing two junior engineers on a copy that project, while the others were on some Fender endeavor. Remember, I'm only guessing, but its pretty obvious that almost identical copies of a sample player, dont make for any real innovation, or more inventive development around the new clip launcher, or DAW productive goodies for a next release. People ARE asking about clip launch development. They've been excited (me being one of them), yet so far get we get little to nothing. Just some sailboat fuel (wind).

Now, that's not to say Presonus can't be busy beavers preparing for something trick, something insanely cool, and shut my whiddle mouthy up. The fact is, we dont hear what's going on [understandably] and it might only be weeks before Ari steps in and says "Pssst, boys and girls, hold on to your seat". Until then, we wait, some gripe, some dont care until dinner is served, and some (as mentioned here in this thread) even start looking elsewhere towards another DAW. Its all what it is. There's certainly from some here, passion that could be steered into writing about it, than worrying about it.
So goes, the musical carousel. 🎠
Let's see. Peace!

All we can do is keep on keeping on. I am a big boy and will decide what works (or doesn't work) for me when the time arrives.

Yes, the four multi-sample instruments are all shades of the same formula - I see them as analagous to some elements in NI's arsenal. They aren't ground-breaking, but they are useful. I would guess that, if sold separately, they'd have an MSRP of around $40-$50 and be on sale for $20-$25 much of the year. Obviously they are all based on the same engine, so they've exploited that effectively - and I wouldn't be surprised to see more libraries in the same style. But this of course is within the core Studio One v7 product, not the Plus subscription.

Exactly. While it's fun to speculate, I won't be losing any sleep over any of it!

Here is what I expect for the next version:
- Studio One is renamed to Fender Studio Pro XXL+
- The MyPresonus Community feed is fully integrated in FS Pro
- Advanced features exclusively for Microsoft Co-Pilot hardware
- Stem separation for Fender guitars
- New Fender amp sim plugin
- Advanced Sub Zero Bass plugin
- Next gen AI Splice integration & subscription
- Fully integrated Fender Shop
I hope I'm wrong, but who knows what the future holds...

I remember a lot of complaints in the old forum (and in online reviews) that PreSonus hadn't introduced any new instruments. So, now there are new instruments.

Ableton announced today that Live Suite can now be purchased via a two year subscription. You pay for two years, and you get the permanent license to their top tier program, and all the sample packs, plugs and instruments that come with it. This puts even more pressure on other companies to build up their subscription models. Ableton has released a ton of great updates in the cycle for 12 that just blows other companies away when it comes to program development. If companies want to exist in the future, they need to invest in the development of their business. It's no secret that the market is saturated. I'm wondering who will be left standing two years from now.

Interesting. Ableton Live Suite is pretty expensive - £539, or around $720. Buying it interest-free over 2 years seems to be quite a good deal, though what updates you'd be entitled to subsequently isn't obvious. That price equates to around 3 years of Studio One Plus membership. Is it better value? I have no idea - I don't really know anything about Ableton and I'm not about to start learning another DAW!

At least the major players: Cubase (Yamaha) and Logic (Apple) who don’t have any pressure to earn money - their products can easily be cross-subsidized.

Since I upgraded to SO Version 7.2.2 Pro, my history shows the following updates:

Key Updates:
  • Version 7.0.1 (November 20, 2024):
Focused on over 50 bug fixes and improvements, including deeper Splice integration for seamless sample browsing and auditioning.

  • Version 7.0.2 (December 4, 2024):
    Included additional bug fixes.

  • Version 7.1 (January 29, 2025):
Introduced the "Cinematic Lights" virtual instrument and a "Transform to rendered audio" option for busses.

  • Version 7.2 (June 3, 2025):
Featured the Sub Zero Bass virtual instrument, the updated Tuner2 plugin, and the Nashville Numbers System.

    And 7.2.2 was July 23, 2025

So... for those that can't count, that comes to five (5) updates since release.

Well - I can count just fine. But there are minor releases and major ones. A major release is when the first digit (AFTER the ".") increases.

On your list - items 1,2 and 5 are not considered "major" in any way.

We have had 2 "feature" drops so far in 2025.

I have several subscriptions. For example for daily newspapers, science papers, programming tools. All subscriptions allow me to change the payment period and have monthly/annual payment options. Add or cancel features. I can downgrade or upgrade, and with most subs I can cancel monthly. With Presonus, none of this is possible.

Hate to admit it - but when I saw the changelog for Ableton 12.2 - I was first blown away that it seemed to be 12 pages long and then almost sad - that their users are getting this kind of update action and all I can do is think back to the good ole days.

Both .1 and .2 were great. Same with the new .3
If you add up all those features they have added it is equal to a solid major number update.
I do not remember Ableton being this generous before.

Since being introduced in 2001, Ableton Live has averaged a major update every two years. If a new major update to S1 happens this year, then S1 (released in 2009) will also be following the major-update-every-2-years schedule.

I still think the main limitation in any DAW is who's writing the music :ROFLMAO: That's why updates that improve workflow, or add songwriting-oriented features like Harmonic Editing or loop launching, hit my sweet spot. When I can work fast, my music is better. Everyone has their own way of using a DAW...few features will score a goal with all users.

I'm expecting the next major version to change the licensing/subscription options and confuse us all again. ;p

I'm not expecting anything my sub expires today ;D

Regards as usual.

So, major new version released tomorrow then?
Life sucks sometimes, oh well i'll keep a stiff upper lip as they say, it would be interesting if that were to happen.
I'm not going to be holding my breath on that one tho', anyway I'll be looking to see what's in the box rather than just taking a punt.

Best of regards.
