Studio One 7.2: Missing Devices, Sub Zero won’t install, and I’m honestly losing it…

Hi everyone,

New joiner humbly stepping in, so hello - nice to meet you all.

I could really use some help – or at least someone who understands how insanely frustrating this has become.

My setup:

  • Studio One is installed on my C:\ drive.
  • I have a large D:\ drive (2 TB) where I store all my VSTs and plugin libraries (like Superior Drummer, etc.), mainly to avoid filling up C.
  • This setup used to work just fine — until recently.

The issues:

  1. "Missing Devices" error (see attached screenshot):
    • Studio One now tells me that instruments like Presence, Mai Tai, Impact, etc. are missing.
    • i tried to re-activate Studio One, and once it starts, the issue persists through restarts.
    • Strangely, sometimes Studio One opens without issues, which makes it all the more confusing.
  2. Can’t install Sub Zero Bass:
    • It doesn’t show up in the installer, and when I download it from the PreSonus website manually, it just tells me it’s already installed — but I can’t find it anywhere inside Studio One.
    • I’ve tried *resetting the Sound Set path back to C:* and manually moving the files over, but nothing helps.

What I’m trying to figure out:

  • Is this a folder structure or installation order issue?
  • Has anyone experienced anything similar with Sub Zero or missing stock instruments?
  • Is it a bad idea to store VSTs and libraries on D:\ even though they worked fine before?
  • What’s the best practice for keeping things organized so Studio One doesn’t lose track of plugins and instruments?

I'm still learning, and I’ve tried so many things now that it’s become one big confusing mess. Honestly, I’ve had to step away from the computer multiple nights in a row just to cool off. Also i reach out to support, it's been a week now, and they're trying to help, but communication is just insanely slow :D

Any advice, shared experience, or guidance would mean a lot right now.

Thanks in advance,
Casper

Folder Structure issue:
Installing VST's (especially VST3) on a different Drive other than System Drive C comes with challenges and issues and is not recommended.
Whenver a VSTi is bundled with a large library though, you can (if the VSTi supports it) install the libraries on different drives and link the location inside the plugin. That is how I do it and so far have not yet had anything disappear on me.
You can not move .vst3 or .dll to another folder or drive without risking to break links to "dependencies".

Installation issue:
If S1 is missing its own plugins, I would guess there is something wrong with the installation and try to re-install the whole program clean.

If not already done, get yourself acquainted with the Location settings:

Can’t install Sub Zero Bass:
  • It doesn’t show up in the installer, and when I download it from the PreSonus website manually, it just tells me it’s already installed — but I can’t find it anywhere inside Studio One.
  • I’ve tried *resetting the Sound Set path back to C:* and manually moving the files over, but nothing helps.

Sub Zero Bass Installation Steps

I haven't tried to use symbolic links with VSTs, but I use them all the time for plugins or programs that expect to see a sound library on the C: drive, and I want to install it elsewhere.
