Studio 192 and Mac Mini M4

Looking for any help anyone can offer. I have an older Studio 192 that was working fine with a Mac Mini M1. I decided to upgrade to Mac Mini M4 and now I have an issue with my 192. After I power on the 192 and it connects to UC, both channel 7 and 8 have full/peaked signal of noise with no inputs connected. I went back-and-forth with Presonus support for a few weeks, and they’ve thrown in the towel saying they can’t help me. It’s a little annoying, since they have the Studio 192 listed as compatible with M4 and Sequoia.

Any ideas?

I have updated my signature.

I have tried all the following UC versions so far:
4.6.1
4.3.2
4.3.1
4.3.0
4.0.0
3.6.4
3.6.2
3.6.1
3.6.0

I just noticed now, that when I switch the clock to internal 192Khz, the 7/8 peaking goes away, but comes back when I play any audio source. Makes it useable aside from channel 7/8 being unavailable as inputs.

Your signature says that you're running Studio One Pro 5.
Per the software compatibility list I don't see support for it so that is suspect.
You could try a 30 day demo of Studio One 7 to see if that corrects the issue.

Supported PreSonus Software:
  • Studio One Pro 7.0.0
  • Studio One 6.6.3
  • PreSonus Studio One + (all included add-ons and bundled content)
  • Universal Control (Mac/PC) - v4.3.3.100963
Interesting that you said everything was working when you had the Mac Mini M1.
I'd also recommend checking with Apple support to compare differences if the only thing changed was upgrading to a Mac Mini M4.

My M1 was on Ventura, and the new M4 is on Sequoia and cannot be downgraded. Presonus is saying the problem is Sequoia and they will not offer a firmware upgrade to fix since the 192 is discontinued. The biggest issue is that they claim the Studio 192 is supported on this page when it is not.

I know the Studio 192 is discontinued but did you let them know it's still on the supported list?

Yes, that was the last response I sent to them

I figured out the cause of the issue. Something is wrong with the internal patching in UC as it relates to the Studio 192. I discovered that the Sub outs 1/2 are being sent into input channel 7/8 by default, which was creating an internal feedback loop. If I mute the sub out 1/2 the issue goes away. After muting sub 1/2, the only other time the 7/8 noise occurs is when I restart, after the 192 connects but before UC loads my custom scene. I hear the peaking noise for 1-2 seconds and then my saved scene loads and mutes sub 1/2. I guess I won't be able to use sub outs 1/2 for anything, but I still have the other 6 available. It's a minor issue to deal with, and saves me from buying a whole new interface.

Also, Studio One 5 Pro works fine in Sequoia.
