Solved Strange Playback Behavior with Loop Active

FenderDude

Hello

I enabled Loop playback, and highlighted a section. When it reaches the end of the section, it returns to the start of the section, but does not actually play. I have to press the play button several times to get it to play the section again. It seems to be a random number of times.

This is a screenshot

I have tried all possible permutations of "Loop Follows Selection", "Enable Play Start Marker", and "Return to Start on Stop." No matter what i select, it just returns to the start of the section, but doesn't actually start playing.
In other DAWS, i just select a range, enable loop selection, and it just plays continuously without the need press play several times. What am i doing wrong? Has anyone else seen this?
Thanks

How are you highlighting a section and what options do you have enabled?

I created macros and a macropage that does what you're trying to do.

Hi thank you for replying. I used the pencil tool to draw a range and made sure that the brackets are showing, and the range is colored light blue, not greyed out. On the transport bar, I clicked on the loop icon. When I press play it reaches the end of the highlighted range, returns to the start of it, but doesn't actually start playing. I haven't had a chance to try the macros, but I was hoping that a macro wouldn't be required. Please forgive my ignorance since I am still in the trial phase of studio one, but I thought continuous looping playback is already a basic transport function of studio one. Please let me know if it's not and a macro is required in order to keep looping. Thanks once again and Regards.

Don't you mean the "Range" tool for selecting a range?

With these options enabled it works (playback keeps looping) like what you're asking for.
Once the "Loop Active" button is enabled you don't need to keep clicking it on.

Hi
Yes, i have it set up as in those screenshots. When it reaches the end, it loops back, then stops at the beginning of the range. I made a screen capture video, but i'm not able to upload it.

OK, so we just need to identify an option setting you've set that's different than mine.

The current release is:
Studio One 7.2.2.107056 Win x64 (Built on Jul 23 2025)

What specific release of Studio One are you running?

Hi I think i may have found the issue. I had "Sync to External Devices" checked. I don't fully understand what Studio One is doing with that, in relation to loop playback. But when i unchecked it, it goes back to the start of the range. Thank you.

Great!

Any thoughts on why you had that option enabled?

Hi
I was trying to start playback of a guitar pro file from within studio one (which apparently doesn't work). I wrote that up in a separate thread.

I forgot to turn off the sync button after that initial trial.
Thanks and Regards
