SongLens, a free/open-source Windows desktop tool for browsing metadata from PreSonus Studio One 7 and Fender Studio 8 `.song` files.

Doc - I just tried the 1.0.3 version using the installer (was unable to get previous attempt to install) and it installed fine here. This could certainly be a useful utility. I am just exploring at this point - it looks like all songs in each folder/subfolder are listed and sorted by song (filename). Is there any way , (for example), to sort by date created, or last modified, in the song listing view within a file folder? In a perfect world and maybe beyond the intended scope, it would be great if there was a way to add or change search/sort keys in the main view to (for example) list all songs by sample rate, or by track count, in either ascending or descending order. Sort by Date last modified, key signature, length, tempo, or whatever field by selecting it as a key field.
And I realize this is an early version, (and already is very useful), and you have your own plans for its development. In any case, many thanks for sharing this - really nice work and great idea!

v1.03 is good here too. And I agree with @AAV - sorting is vital to how I would use this.

Oh - I see the addition of the CSV file save per VP's request. Very nice. Also the light and dark themes, also great. Would personally like to see greater contrast (text to BG) in the light theme. Cheers!

Thanks for the nice words. I like your idea. Basically I'd give you the option to customize the grid and then click the headers to sort. Take a look at this image and see if this roughly what you had in mind. If so I'll get you a build to test. If not, let me know what I missed.

Hi Doc. Yes exactly (ideally with ascending/descending sort options for each column). This would make this really useful. Thanks so much for your responsiveness. Great!

Also noticed for many of my songs where Komplete Kontrol is is use - that the app simply lists "Komplete Kontrol" as the Instrument in play - which is of little value.

If there is any way to be able to know which actual instrument is being used by KK - and display that - it would make this infinitely more useful.

But I do understand if that is beyond the scope here.

I don't have KK. I just pull what the instrument name says in the Instruments panel in the Console View. Send me a screenshot with one of the KK instruments expanded so I can see the difference. btw, did the .CSV Export pass muster? Thx

Cannot get a screencap of the "expand" in KK.

What does work - without any changes - is me simply labeling the track more accurately - and filling in the notes. This is a much better solution.

I'm very, very interested in this. I create dozens and dozens of songs when testing, and many have only a couple of tracks compared to "real" songs. Being able to identify those without having to load up FSP would save a lot of time.

And is it just me - but while Doc is knocking it out of the park here with this tool - why can I not simply right click on any entry in Recent Files and choose Display Song Info and have a panel pop out - giving me a "Fenderized©" version of what Doc is displaying?

Seems like a no-brainer to me. And would save me countless lost hours of wondering what is going on in this track I did a year ago.

Great to have you aboard. Let me know how it works out for you, and feel free to send along any suggestions for improvement.

Hi Doc. Downloaded and installed v 1.0.4. Thanks so much for the excellent improvements. I would like to spend a bit more time with the application, but it appears to be very useable as it stands. Very welcome functionality. I think as other Windows users get a hold of this there may be other suggestions for improvements, but I think from my perspective we would be approaching "nit picking" territory. Thanks so much again Doc. Really great work!

Thanks for the kind words. I'm playing around with adding the ability to launch a song. I've figured it out and in testing it works, but I'm thinking it goes beyond what people need and might lead to unforeseen complications. we shall see....

Any plans to make a Mac version of this utility?
If you're mainly looking to view metadata and see which instruments/effects are used in a song, don't forget that http://s1toolbox.com already does exactly that. You can extract individual instrument presets from a song (or all instrument presets at once as a ZIP file), view and export the track list and song notes, or even convert a song so it can be opened in an older version of Studio One Pro.

Of course, that's not a replacement for SongLens, since it's not a desktop app and can't crawl entire song folders.

And yes, a design overhaul is planned ;-)
