Set a fixed length for launcher record?

Hello,

Currently, if I set a loop length in my arranger view, to say 4 bars... if I then record in a launcher cell, it doesn't stop or loop at that 4 bar mark, it just keeps recording forward. Resulting in a longer clip than I wanted. Is there no way to connect those two things?

I was trying to bypass that by connect a midi foot switch to the launcher for recording / stopping recording, but couldn't work that out either.

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you!

As the Launcher slots are a new feature in SO1 ver7, this may not *yet* be a function the Launcher slots do.
SO1 may have a different purpose in the development roadmap for the Launcher, only time will tell.
As a user like yourself you might be better served if you outline what your final goal is and see if folk can help you get there by a different route.

I could be wrong about my above comment, re the Launcher, I'm sure others will coment, it sound's as though you are looking for something similar to what Ableton has to offer with it's looping functions?

Best regards

Launcher and Arranger are completely separate worlds - by design. They are not connected - nor should they be. The whole point of the Launcher experience is to free you from the Arranger (and it's linear workflow) completely.

Now - as far as recording INTO a Launcher cell goes - what I do now (after flushing my "arrangement" based brain when using this) is to simply record. Forget about bar lengths or even being on point or not.

When I know I want a 4 bar phrase in this specfic cell (as my end game) - I simply select the cell, press my "R" macro keyboard shortcut - wait for the precount to roll by and start recording. Sometimes I nail it. More often that not - I do not nail it.

But when done - however long it takes - I hit spacebar to stop recording, double click on resulting cell and the MIDI editor opens.

I adjust the loop start and end point (CTRL-DRAG) AND the "play start marker - (see here for more - https://studiooneforum.com/threads/...a-specific-length-for-a-midi-event.723/page-3)

to hone in on the "best" 4 bar phrase I laid down, fix a few timing issues, quantize a bit more and then the cell simply plays (loops) on the specific 4 bars that I want to use -(regardless of the actual length of the recorded cell part) - the cell playback effectively ignores the rest of the crap I did not need.

Move on to the next.

Once you get rolling in here - and forget Arranger view (at least until it comes time to actually "assemble" your arrangement) I find the Launcher to be one of the most productive methods I have ever found to actual build out a track in record time.

Thanks y'all. So I get it now, it's literally like using a looping pedal. You have to time it out on your own as far as length. I found a shortcut for launching the cells which enables and disables recording, so I set that as just . I've ordered a midi foot switch that'll be here eventually, I'm hoping I can do midi learn on it and set it to that shortcut. That'll solve most of my issues with it I believe, I'll select which ever cell using my mouse or atom sq, and use my foot to take care of starting and stopping.

If anyone needs to find it, just go to keyboard shortcuts and type in launch cells in the search box.
