Sample save location

Hi guys, perhaps a stupid question but when creating your own samples with impact or sample one how do you approach it? For a long time I was just saving my samples as a preset, however, I then realised that the actual audio files don’t get saved with the instrument and instead are linked to the media folder of whichever session you create it in. Which isn’t great if you then decide to archive a session and remove it from the drive because obviously all the samples stop working. I know I can save it as a sampler file and that creates a kind of monolith containing all the audio files, but how do I then get that to show up as a preset in impact? Do I have to drag the soundx file back into my session and then save that as a preset?
It all seems a bit convoluted, unless I’m missing something. Would love to hear how you guys handle this. My samples are a mess at the moment. Some are soundx files others are presets linked to certain songs so would stop working if I ever removed that song. I’d like to streamline everything so I know that every time I try to load a sample it knows exactly where all the files are.

I'd point you towards New Sonic Arts Nuance Sampler. It has an option where FSP presets will save all used Files embedded with it.
