Roland Integra-7 patchlist via the amazing Studio One Toolbox

The Integra-7 patchlist for Cubase that I located over at the Roland Clan has worked well in said DAW. It contains over 6000 presets. I'm thinking that this might be a challenge for the Studio One Toolbox to convert to sound variations. Nope! A second after I dragged the patchlist into the Toolbox conversion field, the keyswitch file was in my download folder. Amazing!!!

I sense your excitement, as someone who always thought (correct me if I'm wrong) that patch lists depended on Sysex to display properly in other programs like Cubase and not be applicable in S1/FSB which has never had sysex? Until now, that is, you're saying? I'd be more amazed if you told us what you can do with the file containing 6,000 Integra patches—not just that it's landed in your download folder and is sitting there. Can you tell us more please? What can you do now that you couldn't before? Anything that gets FSP more Cubase-like in the MIDI area would always be a nice surprise!

The keyswitch file created by Studio One Toolbox can be used as a sound variation in S1/FSP. One of the various uses of a sound variation is to send program change messages to external midi instruments. Sysex is NOT required, only Sound Variations, which Studio One has had since version 5.2. So, anyone that has an Integra-7 and that file can select any of the 6000 presets on the Integra-7 from within S1/FSP.

I believe that is why Walt is excited, as should anyone that has external midi instruments that respond to program changes. I have the same thing working with my Roland FP-30 digital piano and a Cakewalk instrument file converted to a keyswitch file by Studio One Toolbox. This capability actually expands the available sounds of the FP-30, since only about 35 different sound samples are accessible from the FP-30's front panel. But the sound generator inside has the entire GM2 soundset, and the keyswitch file provides access to all of those samples from within S1/FSP.

K, that's all easier to visualize, for the most part, the word "keyswitch" being new to yours truly. I haven't explored either keyswitches or Sound Variations, but I gather from your excitement as well that all of a sudden the opportunity is there to go deeper into MIDI stuff than was previously available in S1/FSP. Seeing program names instead of numbers would be great.

I imagine the banks and programs take a while to wrap your head around? Or not really?

Any tutorials or videos show these capabilities yet?

Pete Brown dropped this on his discord a couple of days ago. Midi 2 pulling a patch list from a vst synth, I imagine this is going to be possible with H/Ware as well ???

Auditioning sounds
When an instrument track is monitor-enabled and the hardware module patches are loaded, clicking on the gear icon opens the sound variations editor. The user can browse through the list and audition sounds with their MIDI controller, or playback recorded MIDI while selecting sounds.

Sound Variations
When the Sound Variations tab in the editor is active, clicking with the pencil tool will bring up the patch list to create program changes. Program changes can be entered where needed.

Now we're getting somewhere! Although one could still hope Fender would just mention the term "MIDI 2" already.

Yeah, it's such fundamental thing , I don't see why Fender have not commented or committed in some fashion to MIDI 2.

Just out of curiosity did you look at the previous discord shout out above, dated 21/09/2026
Those widgets "Windows MIDI (Preview)" Midi Tools 2 go.
12 windows apps Pete Brown has been able sign them so that he can push them out for the Dev Teams to test.
Looks interesting and he's definitely pushing it forward. All power to him.

Well at least they found some back-door way to get patch lists into the program, so that's something.

I haven't been able to dive into MIDI 2 to the extent I'd like cause of some time related realities keeping me away from recording which "should" dissipate soon. I'm not very effective at anything unless I'm all in.

Yeah, Pete Brown is pretty heroic fighting the good fight. As usual haters will bitch cause he's not fast enough.
