Solved Registration: Can One Delay Registration of a serial number? If so, when do the 12months start?

Studio One 7 Pro upgrades come with 12 months of free updates.

With the June Presonus 30% sale happening now, I am considering purchasing now an SO7Pro upgrade from a 3rd party retailer (Like BPPhoto or Sweetwater). But I also am considering waiting actually to register the serial number for a few months.

Why? My SO7Pro 7.1.1 perpetual license (upgraded already from SO6 Hybrid Plus) has reached the end of its 12 month period. It is still working great and I do not really need to upgrade immediately to 7.2 yet but want to purchase at the June sale/discount price. I was wondering if I purchase the SO7 upgrade from a 3rd party retailer (not directly from Presonus),and hold off registering the upgrade to 7.2 for a few months, when will the 12 month period actually start?

QUESTION: Does the 12 month period of free updates start at actual Date of purchase from the 3rd party retailer? Or does it start when the serial number is actually Registered with Presonus?

Any experience with delaying registration of a serial number?

Thanks in advance for your advice and experience.

If your license is still active I've been told the upgrade adds one year to your existing license.
However, I'd still recommend contacting PreSonus or Sweetwater just to be sure.

As I stated in another thread here...

I contacted Presonus support on this and this was their response:

'Thank you for reaching out. You are correct, if you purchase an upgrade now and wait to use it it will extend your update date.

Studio One 7 licenses will offer feature updates for a year after they are purchased. In the case of Studio One Pro+ subscription, the features are received during the subscription period. A non-updating perpetual license is issued when the subscription expires.

When you purchase a perpetual license, updates are received for a one-year period from the date the license is registered in your account.

You have the option to purchase an upgrade at anytime after your license stops receiving updates. You can purchase it right away and continue to receive new features as we release them. You could also wait until you feel that enough new features have been released. When you purchase the upgrade, you will receive all new features released in the meantime instantly and receive new features for a year after the upgrade purchase date.'

QUESTION: Does the 12 month period of free updates start at actual Date of purchase from the 3rd party retailer? Or does it start when the serial number is actually Registered with Presonus?

Not really sure how Presonus would ever know you bought a license from a third party.

Seems only logical that the clock cannot start until you introduce the serial to your Presonus account.

Basically, if you have a current subscription, a new licence will add 12 months to the end date of your current sub. If you don't have a current one, it'll take the 12 months from the day you activate the new one on your Presonus account.

Thanks to all of you very much. Your responses are helpful. What all of you have said is exactly what I was hoping for when buying an upgrade license.

You all are very helpful --Thanks
