Recording Arpeggio from Yamaha MX49 Synthesizer.

I am having great success recording voices (multitimbral) using MX49 parts (midi channels matching Studio One track/channels. Instrument and Audio tracks record with no issues. MX49 has DAW Record option to set up the instrument. Works great. When I try to record a Voice that is an arpeggio, it doesn’t work. The MX has a ARP Record setting option and a few steps to setup the instrument. I follow them precisely. Prior to “record” I play keys to confirm the voice/arpeggio is coming through. Then I arm record and hit play and the voice/arpeggio changes to a max tempo and garbled. I tried it with MX49 local control On and Off with no success. Studio One does not have a MIDI Thru option to “uncheck the box” in the advanced Settings for Audio Setup. Using Scarlett 4i4 audio interface. MX49 reference manual describes ARP record setup using Cubase with Steinberg driver. I Do Not want to go there since Studio One is a great DAW for me last 3 years with Korg X5D. Cubase setup has a Midi Thru disconnect option when recording IF that is my issue.

Anyone recording Apeggios with Studio One ? More specifically, using MX49 (or 61, 88)?

If you're recording the produced MIDI notes from the Yamaha's Arpeggiator then you may need to turn it the Arp OFF on the MX49 when playing back those parts on Studio One, as it will receive the notes and apply the Arp to each note coming back which will get you in a muddle.

On some Yamaha's you can prevent the Arp from triggering on external notes as I used to do this on a Montage. You could either bypass the Arp after recording which was what i'd do, but there was an 'ARP MIDI OUT' option and you could toggle that to prevent the Arp triggering on returning notes.

If it doesn't have the ARP MIDI OUT option then it may be best to leave Local On and mute the track in Studio One which you're recording into so the notes don't return back to your keyboard during recording. Enabling Local On will allow you to hear them playing on the MX49 as usual.

Then, when the recorded parts are in Studio One, you can disable the Arp on the MX49 and allow the MIDI notes from Studio One to drive the tone generator.

Recording MIDI Arp's can be quite confusing to start with.
