Quick Question about Drag & Drop

hey again

Can you actually drag files from Win explorer directly into the timeline?

I'm 90% sure I was able to but not anymore.

And I'm 90% sure this has to do with one of the latest Win updates since I've spotted Studio One, Maschine etc... all being blocked due to a new protection setting for the Documents Folder.

Anyone using Win 11 and recently updated who found unwanted behaviors such as this?

I ask since the other option I have is that my Win user got corrupted somehow so would be helpful to double check with you before tackling this

thanks!!

Hey Coro - I'm running Windows 11 on the latest update (KB5063878) and don't have this issue (I'm able to drag audio assets from the Windows explorer into an audio track). Dunno how much I can help, but a couple troubleshooting queries: (1) what's the error message when you try to drag and drop? (2) are you able to pull your assets in through Studio One's browser? (3) are you pulling from an external hard drive or your onboard memory?

Might be there's a toggle in the folder properties that needs to be flipped or something.

hey Penny

Thanks for chiming in, this is good to know because it leans toward possible issues with my user being corrupted

or unwanted behaviors with folder permissions. No idea tho'

I downgraded from 3878 but didn't do the trick

to answer your questions:

1: no error message, is just not possible (the icon turns into "can't do sir" once I land on the timeline)

2: indeed I can do that

3: pulling from the 2nd partition of my NvMe drive

Interesting that you can pull from within Studio One's browser but not from the separate Win explorer window. Unfortunately I think we're above my pay grade, sorry! Hopefully some of the other folks in the forum have a better handle.

I too have Win update (KB5063878) and have no troubles dragging files from the Explorer into Studio One.
Maybe you have a Win security setting that got flipped somehow?

I remember something about this happening with Windows 10, and I think it related to whether you're running Studio One in administrator mode. If so, you can't drag from the desktop. (Or it may have been the other way around...you can't drag if you're not running Studio One in administrator mode. It's been a while...)

IIRC the important thing was that you do NOT run S1 in administrator mode

I've had this issue before, this is the solution. Make sure you're not running S1 as an Admin.

As already mentioned, make sure Studio One is not run as Administrator. Dragging files from Explorer into apps with Admin permissions will usually fail.

Technically, it's something entirely different. On Windows, drag and drop is blocked between programs running at different permission levels. If the target app runs as Admin, you can’t drag files from Explorer (which normally runs without Admin rights) or other non-Admin programs. Both need to run at the same level for drag and drop to work.

Thank you all

Indeed I was while trying to figure things out and in the end my user got corrupted somehow and had to create a new one

but this is great to know since I didn't XD
