Solved Question about using the Listen Buss

Hello Everyone,

I only use one set of monitors set to Main Out 1-2 in S1. I realise I have both my Main Out 1-2 and my listen buss set to Main Out 1-2. I have my SoundID reference plugin and my TC Clarity set as inserts on the Listen buss. I have no inserts on the Main Out 1-2 to be as CPU efficient as possible.... I realise that I may need to set the outputs on the Main Out 1-2 to something else, or perhaps I am getting a parallel chain effect with both the Main Out and the Listen Buss set to the same Main Out 1-2?

How are Folks handling this?

Thank you for any insight.

No. You're doing it correctly. The monitor modification (room correction) is inserted on the listen bus so that it is not printed when you export your mix from the master (main) bus.

Plus, you can lower listening levels without affecting the signal of your master bus. Comes in handy in a home studio that dubbs as a bedroom in the late hours 🤓

And the Listen bus gets priority on outputs. So in your case Main is not routed to your monitors when the Listen bus is routed there as well. Removing the Main mapping in the I/O Output matrix will make no difference, also not for processing. But it looks tidier;)

Just be aware that the sound on the listen bus goes "through" the main as well. So if you do put anything on the main, like a mixFX or some plugin, it's going to also be heard in the listen bus. I generally have a "vintage console" as a mixFX on the main. The listen bus is a great feature.

Ah! This is really great information, thank you, Everyone! OK, I will just keep the Mains and the Listen Buss set to Main Out 1-2, then. I appreciate the help.
