Question about Scenes

Hey all

After 1 hour of searching I do not think this is yet possible but just wanted to double check with you

These Scenes here cannot be assigned to a shortcut right?

The only way to trigger them is by using the mouse?

I'm not entirely sure since I wasn't involved in the Launcher. But I believe you're correct. There are "Next Launcher Scene" / "Previous Launcher Scene" commands that can be assigned to shortcuts, but no commands to access specific scenes.

Thanks Lukas

My uber dream is that Presonus will come up - at some point - with a new controller the same way Live has Push.
All the software is there and being Presonus super experienced as an hardware company and being S1 far far better than Live ..... omg

Hopefully these shortcuts will be included soon tho. I still think that Launcher is deffo underused atm and the dev team has some cool stuff cooking for it .

Not being able to trigger scenes from a hardware controller is frustrating if you're used to Ableton Live. I'm hoping that if PreSonus doesn't create a dedicated controller, that it "adopts" an existing APC-type controller (not just Launchpad) and provides hooks in Studio One to talk with it. I understand that the Launcher is more studio-friendly than designed for live performance, and in that context, it's implemented well. But improvising in the studio like a live performance is a valid songwriting technique.

absolutely agree. But I can't really think of Presonus doing something limited like that. The Atom SQ alone I have is already quite smart on this regard (dialogue between HW and SW). I'm still in the process to copy as much as I can from the Maschine workflow into S1 and I've reached a solid point as of today.
Considering how long they've been making HW and how well S1 is designed, I have a faith in the dev team/hw team

I've not used them but I thought both Atom controllers can trigger scenes and individual clips.
If not then why the heck not?

Of course, neither of those products really have enough pads for the task.

We need to be able to attach a MIDI event to every clip/scene/whatever then we could use pretty much any MIDI controller, or even a plain old keyboard to drive the launcher. I'm really, really hoping that such a thing is in their plans.

So do I! Especially given the Faderport design. But I'm always surprised at seminars when I ask if people mix with a control surface or a mouse. The overwhelming majority use a mouse. My guess is that the Faderport has done well, because it not only works with Studio One, but with other DAWs so there are a lot of potential customers. My concern would be that the subset of Studio One users who are enough into looping to pay for a dedicated controller may not justify the expense of designing and marketing one. In any event, I do think that more compatibility with existing controllers would be a good stopgap measure. But, PreSonus is always full of surprises, so I'll be patient :)

I see your point and def they should aim for maximum compatibility which I think - being MIDI what it is - shouldn't be much of an issue.
I have Maschine MK3 - well built, sturdy and all in all a great piece of hw - and while is designed to work with Maschine 3 software, you're one click away to turn it into a "general" MIDI controller that can be used with any DAW.
And I've done a full comprehensive mapping of it for Studio One which makes it super usable and so close to S1's workflow. (thanks to S1 mapping abilities tho. Tried to do the same in Nuendo 13 and it was a total utter nightmare)
Essentially Maschine HW capabilities can be retained with any software by a solid 70-80% in my experience. Which is a lot.
And Studio One users will benefit of that 100%.
Also tech wise they already have a done a good portion of it with Atom and SQ so they shouldn't reinvent the wheel by any means.
After all this is simple tech and should remain simple.
The only thing they should improve, in my experience, is the quality and responsiveness of the pads. Compared to Atom and SQ, Maschine MK3 is 2-3 steps above on this regard.

I completely agree. I haven't yet explored my Atom SQ with clip launching as of yet. But I cant understand (if to your point, why can't clips/scenes be MIDI addressable). If they were MIDI addressable, most any other external hardware device such as a Novation Launchpad, Akai performance controller(APC mini mk2), NI Maschine, etc. could launch such entities. Not having that is a serious gap in allowing a user to create selections on the fly (via hardware), be it live, or in the studio. Both equally important.
How about it, devs? I know MIDI program change is available from instrument recieve/send, so is it just a case of having launch clips, and scenes contain not some program change value, but instead a event/scene change value?
I'm sure there's an added layer of complexity over this we can all appreciate that has to be implemented. Something Lukas could tackle, or pass on.

In the mean time, I'll do my best to learn the available control that is already in Atom SQ since the Studio One v7 update. I'm currently in the thick of releasing a song, and video so my plate is full.
But I have faith in the whiz kids!

Added (via hardware) for clarity.
