Omnisphere 2 is one of my favourite and most-used synths so I'm excited by the announcement but I'm not excited by the upgrade price so I'll be holding off upgrading for a while.

I love that they have added a mutate feature. More synths should have that sort of thing. The one in Absynth was superb.

The upgrade price is actually reasonable. High yes I agree but considering what you get this is fairly major upgrade plus you get a huge range of libraries now as well as the revamped factory sounds. I am not sure what the 'Atmosphere' upgrade option means though. This is discontinued synth. Are they bringing it back etc..

Atmosphere was the intial offering that transformed into Omnisphere 1 then 2 and now 3. It was the original product.
It's come a long way over the years. There are some things in there that I know folk have been asking for including myself.
It's probably for folk that never upgraded from Atmosphere.

The price as you say is reasonable as an upgrade, I wouldn't like to be looking at buying a full copy from scratch...
If they have been working on Ver 3., since Ver 2., was released in 2015 that would amount to almost 10 years R&D costs.

I do have some questions around DAW use as the Promo appears to be all standalone, but that and they are minor!

Kindest regards.

Thanks for that. They do say even in the $199 upgrade you get the 'Atmosphere' presets. I use it both ways in the DAW and standalone all the time. I have got it on 3 computers! Three Omnisphere's are better than one! The upgrade is massive though. New engines, effects, sounds, GUI improvements with advanced editing controls etc..Hardware integration has been really vamped up. They do things well and things stay pretty well the same for a long time with Omnisphere and the same will happen with V3. Once its settled in it will be solid and reliable for years. I have got the 'Undercurrent' expansion and it sounds fantastic.

I'd prefer a lower upgrade price that excluded all the new libraries. I've already got more sounds that I can ever audition so I don't place any value on that stuff.

But I'll end up buying it anyway. I don't think they ever have sales on their stuff but some of the resellers do.

Never bought any of the SoundExtensions, but I know of them and there are lots of good YTube examples of what's available. Nice one.
To some extent you can see how the SoundExtensions has permeated into new GUI for the Main page, it has that same essence of bringing some of the more expressive features to the forefront. I am going to wait and read a few reviews etc., before I can burn any more plastic.
Plus unless you have an MPE device some of the expressive patches will fall short of their capabilities.

Man I wish I had the cash to throw at an Osmose my GAS goes through the roof everytime I see one.

Anyway Take care and best regards.

The original Atmosphere library and presets have been part of Omnisphere for years now. I use these all the time in v2.

@Vocalpoint
If the NI integration gets sorted, I bet ya'll be rippin that box open on the MK3, I had 3 different SS 88 MK2's on the bounce, all had faults of one kind or another.
All returned due to issues... The last one was utterly bizzare, if it was in direct sunlight odd keys on the Fatar bed would drop.
I remember writing and sending pics to NI. They were very good about replacement, all power to them.
I always remember naming the pics as "the elephant has got bad teeth". I still have them archived somewhere. They must have thought I was a right fruitcake, before I sent the pics in.

Regards.

Word is that OMNI 3 will allow direct integration with the MKII - so I won't need to worry about setting up my MKIII for a while yet.

Still will not address that MKIII box in the corner here for any reason until NI picks up it's socks and gets to work on KK v3.

It continues to be a lost cause - some 2+ years after release...

I was ref... the MPE as OMNI 3 has some MPE integration/patches from what Eric said in the promo.
The NI MK3 is poly aftertouch or MPE capable...yes?, or you saying Omni 3 is on your to get list when it's available, no need to wait.
I get where you stand, I just had a bad run of MK2's and eventually jumped on an Novation SL not as nice a keybed but it has other features I wanted and use.

Regards as always

Yes - the MKIII has MPE integration but I still have no idea how that helps me - I am not serious keyboard player anyway.

I will on the case very early on Tuesday like many others. One thing I have learned is when Spectrasonics decides to show up with something new - which is an ultra-rare occurrence - there is really no point waiting.

Especially if a good price is part of the equation.

As a quick aside, another major keyboard product has dropped, which the keyboard community is excited about, this time the hardware Yamaha MODX-M series. The reason I mention that in an Omnisphere thread is that, wouldn't you know it, guess which software isn't on the list for already-implemented DAW control? Yup. S1. So, while as we all know there is plenty to like about S1, it remains a second-class citizen when it comes to manufacturers getting around to bringing it into the fold. Not looking to assign blame; just noting the trend.
