NI Insolvency?

Apparently Kontakt is the money maker. Most of other products, including hardware, are the cause of the net loss NI has been supporting.

I am not surprised, but through time its power in the market has degraded. How many major virtual instrument creation companies have moved away from it to their own UI?

When you strip away the stuff they've piled on top of it (some of which I find an annoyance - [a side issue]) what's at core hasn't changed much in how many version releases? However, beneath it is an architecture that's patented / copyrighted, and that could be of value to someone. As would the substantial database of registered users and the pool of mid-sized virtual instrument creation companies. Someone somewhere will be putting a price / value on their whole inventory. And that price / value will reflect what's available elsewhere on the market. And the development potential of the Kontakt engine.

What's in their catalogue of instruments that's outstanding?

What's in their catalogue of instruments that you use? I use their guitars, and some keys quite regularly, along with some of the 'regional' (as in regions of the globe) packs.

How does their hardware stack up against its competitors?

I suspect it will survive as a brand name. But its current product portfolio is probably too broad. Where does it have any sort of market 'domination' in 2026? I could see the hardware side of the business ceasing - to be replaced with licenced integration.

Which companies are likely to buy it?

What do you think?

No part of NI or its portfolio can be sold unless the Administrator thinks that the company is beyond saving and therefore its assets need to be sold to defray the debt. Speculation on its potential break up is very premature

Exactly. This is day 3 of 90 in the court managed timeline. This will be going for months yet.

For those concerned about having a record of your NI/iZotope products, going into Native Access and clicking on 'Support' (bottom left) then 'Create a support file' will download a comprehensive set of files that list all of your installed products. I believe within the several files created are the serial numbers of those products.
