Newbie to S1 but not DAWs...The lack of proper snap in the GUI is tragic...

I have just decided to save money and not buy a recording mixer, and use the computer instead.....so I just bought an audio interface. .. I am trying Studio One and it is already reminding me why I gave up on Ableton Live years ago. There is a trend for huge drop down menus, hundreds of tiny buttons , an infinity of options and a increasingly finer granularity in a professional piece of software.... hoewever, I don't need that. I don't need carpal tunnel from mouse work.

Before you read any further: I set the quantize and snap values as well as the timebase , before realising that snap was ignoring them.

I need the snap to snap strictly to the setting I have set it to without nuances. I don't want a soft snap that tries to let me change my mind and override the snap setting and snap to a half bar because I released the mouse button slightly early. I am not working with video. I don't need fractions of seconds timebase. I am making music, I just want musical subdivisions.

I cannot work with finesse using the mouse, adjusting numbers to fractions in a little box on screen... I am not interested in that. I am a drummer. I am interested in bars and beats, not milliseconds. I need to be able to pick up and move the loop bracket to another part of the arrangement when I click on it on the timeline , not finely move the loop markers around.

Why would anyone who uses the loop at all want a loop of 9.0.2.3.4.2 bars???? It took me a while to figure out what the hell was going on with my drum pattern !!
(By the way most people don't want to layer drum patterns by default - overlaping patterns should not be enabled!!)

I don't need to be able to place the end of the loop before the start.... If I want the track to play backwards I will sample it.... what is the point of being able to do that on the timeline?? yes it is an option for achieving something, but creativity is killed by options.

I need to be able to rapidly set that loop length to be exactly an integer number of bars, not fine subdivisions.... without fiddling with the mouse....WTH???

Are these basic funcions possible??? Maybe I need a simpler DAW ? All I want is multitrack recording, basic editing and VST plugins...

By this comment, it sounds as though at some point you inadvertently deleted time along your timeline by right clicking inside a loop position that was not set to snap. The right click choice you made by mistake would have been 'Delete time in Loop'. When snap isnt on, this can easily throw snap positioning off from your intended positioning, altogether. As well as a whole bunch of snap issues like you are experiencing.

Try it fresh on a new song. Snap works perfectly fine.

To get snap working properly again with the song you are in, you'll need to delete the timeline section properly this time. In the same way again as described by what you did by accident. Only now, you'll need to define your zero bar/beat/tick so that snap positions at proper locations. If you're not too deep in your song, and as a newcommer, I'd suggest to simply start from a new song from scratch.

Also, dont zoom and position too closely as this has a tendency, to override snap positioning.

Lets tackle a new song try, first. So in responding, keep points around this only. I believe youll be well on your way to liking the Studio Pro. I'm also a drummer and find Studio Pro works very well. It wont require mouse finesse, or effectively fighting you as it sounds.
