A challenge like this seems like a great way to write 50 songs in a year. I have a problem with writing when I am inspired vs writing on a schedule. If/when I write on a schedule, it feels forced and I think the songs suffer. However, this is a personal problem and may not apply to anyone else.

I think Nick Cave once said something like, "Inspiration is an excuse for lazy people" or something along those lines. While I agree with the premise of his statement, I am not a professional and therefore have the luxury of waiting for inspiration rather than pushing songs through the pipeline. Maybe a less lofty goal that would work for someone like me would be to strive to 1 or 2 or 3 songs per month rather than one per week.
