Multi-Output Addictive Drum setup?

Olorin

New member
Hi there,
I'ver looked for info on YT, but whatever changed in FSP from earlier versions doesn't seem to apply. Can someone please point me to an appropriate resource, or lay down the steps for me? I had no issues doing this in Logic.
The manual isn‘t helpful, either. Pg. 82, I think.
Thanks!

Did you check out the tutorials in the tutorial database?

Actually, you just need to activate the multi-outs and that's it:

Thx.i‘llcheckwhen I‘m home. It‘s intermission at Steve Hackett!

Um, no. Thanks, but it doesn‘t display the instrument choices, though ADD2 boxes are ticked.

Why are you checking the forum during intermission. Why arent you checking out what is possibly new in Steve's stage rig. ; )
I'm only joshing. I'm a big fan of Steve Hackett, is all. I didnt know FSP would have any different setup for Addictive drummer output. I was thinking Lukas nailed it with activating the multi outs, then in FSP/S1P, in the mixer, you'll additionally want to open the instruments section and expand the relevant channels, i.e. click, snare, overhead mic's, etc.

I am pretty sure it will not do that. An option to consider is setting up one instance very well and saving it as a track preset. First enable all the outputs like Lukas shows. Then you need to do a tedious little setup operation which involves routing each drum from the AD2 mixer to channels on your FSP console:

I route all of mine post-fader, but you can do it how you like it. I do post-fader (this is the AD2 mixer's post-fader), because I have found the presets on AD2 to be really well balanced already, they sound awesome and there is usually no reason for me to re-create that balance in FSP's console. My goal is usually to start with FSP's console at the same starting fader level for these channels and just go from there. Name each channel to match its use and setup any default fx, and additional routing that you might like:

I have sends for my verbs or other treatments somewhat depending on frequency spectrum, and I have my outs going to different busses. You'll just set it how you like it and what matches how you work. When you are all done, save it as a Track Preset. Just be aware that FSP will recreate any of the busses or sends all the way down and out to the Main, so if you don't want that little gift, don't save your track preset with your sends and outs set. The default out would be Main of course. Save the track preset with a somewhat generic name like Rock Kit AD2 or what have you. You can also just save it as an instrument preset or instrument + fx. Might even be your first choice, since the console doesn't get messed with too hard.

Since this won't cover everything as far as a direct instrument name -> channel name, you can take your initial work done above and tweak it as you change kits, and save those as presets and sort of build up a little collection. Or just take in the preset and tweak it for the song and leave it be. The hardest part is setting up AD2 to send to the multi-outs.

I hope the show was awesome. Kinda jelly over here.

What does that mean? Which instrument choices, and what doesn't show them?

You need to provide some details, otherwise it's hard to help.

Hi. Had lots to do yesterday. Here's a couple of screenshots.
As you can see, I've instantiated ADD2, and selected the multi-outs (lit in green).
The first screenshot shows what's there before I click on the suggested arrow.
The second screenshot shows what comes up after I click on it.
There is no drop down menu for each of the drum outputs.

So, that is what I am getting.

Look directly beneath the 'X' in the upper right. Clicking this will expand another row of header, exposing the I/O controls you're looking for

DING! DING!
Ok. It should be looking like this now, right?

Thank you very much. One more question: how do I get the multi outs to show up on the arrange page (Logic terminology)? Below ADD2 instrument top left?

Enable automation for channels will put a 'track' in the arrange section - even if the automation is unused.

thanks, Bob!

Funny enough, that was the first time I ever logged into an internet forum on my iPhone, lol. Security was very chill, so I got to wander right up to the front of the stage, and I naturally checked out their rigs! lol. We were 8 rows back. Close enough to get a great guitar lesson.
Anywards, thanks for your tips!

This also depends a little on what you want to do with the multi outputs in the Arrangement View (;)). For automation of the outputs and inserted plug-ins Bob's advice works fine but there's no audio there to manipulate the way you can with audio tracks.

An alternative is to Transform the instrument track to Audio Track, which creates audio tracks for all multi outputs. When you do this you get the option to Preserve the Instrument Track State so you can go back if need be. And the audio tracks you can edit just like any other audio track.
