Melodyne update kills edited tracks?

Hi,

together with the latest Studio Pro update (now 8.1.2.113407), I also got an update for Melodyne Assistant (now 5.4.2.006).

After the update, all tracks that I edited with Melodyne before the update were unusable. Some events were gone, other events were empty or in the wrong places, and on some events the editing was disabled (grayed notes in Melodyne). The problem occurs with the original project and all copies of it I have as a backup, so I doubt that the files are corrupted. As all other tracks which weren't edited with Melodyne are unaffected, so I assume that the Melodyne update was broken. I had to edit the tracks all over again. Fortunately, I keep all vocal takes on other tracks, so I still had the original recordings.

Is there anyone who has experienced the same? Any advices welcome.

Hmmm...that version of Melodyne came out a long time ago so not sure if it's a Melodyne issue.

No. I noticed that there was an update for Studio Pro, and I installed it (without any session opened). The updater closed Studio Pro, that's why there couldn't be any open session.

@darren During the update of Studio Pro, there was a very short message that Melodyne will be updated. I never saw that message again and I also can't find any Melodyne updates in Studio Pro's download list. Maybe there was no update. But for sure my session was alright before the update and it was corrupted after. Also, only tracks with Melodyne were corrupted. All other tracks are ok. Maybe there's a compatibility issue between Melodyne and the latest version of Studio Pro?

Since you mentioned Assistant, did you check if that's still the activated version you get inside SP or maybe that it deactivated and/or reverted to Essentials? That would block editing options specific to Assistant.

The moment you have finished doing any Melodyne work on a track you need to do a CtrL B or Command B. This renders the completed Melodyne edit to normal audio. (Melodyne is then removed) Then the track will never be altered no matter what you do.

If you are concerned about undoing any Melodyne edits, do a backup of the audio track before you do Melodyne edits on it. Generally I have found once you do a great Melodyne edit you will never want to undo it.

Sorry but I'm still on v6 but I've checked all the melodyne files on my PC and they haven't been updated since 2004 which is when 5.4.2.006 came out.

Can't be sure but sounds like a Studio OnePro Melodyne integration thing

@darren Good point. However, my license is still Melodyne Assistant. There are also features available, that Essential doesn't have. (I updated from Essential in November 2025)

@brmichael, not sure how accurate this will be but if you look at the melodyne VST3 file which is program files/common files/VST3/Celemony/Melodyne you can see when it was created and last modified. That should give a clue whether anything happened to it when you updated Studio Pro.

There must have been confusion involved. Melodyne never auto-updates. It checks for updates, but opens the web page and you have to manually download and install. The version you have is from 2024 (that's the newest update, don't worry). It doesn't make sense.

What does make sense however is an old version from way before 2024 was used in your project, you somehow manually updated and now the new version doesn't read the old data correctly. But I can't imagine, how that could have happened.
