As a Melodyne user, you’ll know that it is our passion to shape sound in a sensitive and musical manner – Melodyne being the most obvious example.

Today we are delighted to present Tonalic, a new plug-in inspired by the same musical philosophy. It offers entirely new ways of working on the computer with guitar, drums and bass.
We feel it’s only right that Melodyne users like yourself should be among the first to discover it, so we’d like to reward you for your loyalty with an exclusive present. But first things first …

Tonalic has its foundation in perfect performances by world-class session musicians playing the finest instruments, recorded with state-of-the-art equipment in legendary studios worldwide.

No AI, no loops, no MIDI. Based on our Melodyne engine, we’ve developed a brand new technology that makes it possible to adapt these performances to any song and integrate them organically into the production – whatever your chord sequence, tempo or groove. The musicality, precision, creativity and any magical moments of the original studio performances are fully preserved. And it all sounds so natural, so convincing, so alive, it’s as though each musician were jamming right alongside you.

Would you like to try Tonalic? For you, as a Melodyne user, we’ve prepared as a special gift a product not available for purchase: Tonalic essential. Offering an exclusive selection of guitar material, this small edition of Tonalic comes complete with all the functions and musical intelligence of the larger editions. And, what’s more, no time limit! The license will never expire.

Please bear with us at the outset, though. With so much about Tonalic that is new, we want to roll it out slowly to make sure everything is functioning correctly. This may take a few more days, but as soon as we’re set, we’ll leave a free Tonalic essential license in your user account and notify you by e-mail

It's an Tonalic Essential so low level entry point. We shall see what happens

I posted about this on another forum and it seems that it is very similar to Band in a box Real Tracks. It is yet to be seen if the quality is better.
My understanding is that it is yet more loops and then integrated into Melodyne.
Comments are that we can already do that.
Also someone said it is like $150 a year subscription!!! Sorry not interested.
I guess once again the focus is on feeding people who don’t know how to play instruments more tools.

Im excited that Fender now is re branding Studio one. It would be nice to have at least one Daw left on the planet that actually represents real musicians!

I don't know how i will react to this product when it comes out. I likely won't like it or use it. With that being said, as I seemily
just keep getting older my arthritis follows right along. Can a product like this be useful? For me at the time being it's a resounding no. They claim I will get something to try out. I will try it. I have yet to hear much decent stuff for guitar along this line. I messed around with Band in a box years ago and was totally unimpressed. May be interesting to see where technology takes us weather a person uses it or not or even likes it or not. The market / sales will determine if it worth anything or not. At this point I am not expecting much but am Interested in what it may present 🎸 🖖

Tonalic seems to be a bit more flexible than Real Tracks, and I was quite impressed with the online demos. But the price is steep - $24.99 a month for the full product. Over a year, that’s more than the price of a perpetual licence for a fairly high-end version of BIAB. Which, despite its ancient UI, is a very powerful program (or, more accurately, suite of programs).

I’ve had Band in a Box on and off since it first came out. I always thought of it as a Casio keyboard sort of thing.
I have the latest version and it includes Real Tracks.
I was goofing around with it and I entered the chords for a song I was writing. . Then you can experiment with what happens when you apply a different style. It’s a lot of fun that way. Reggae? Blues? Country?! Hey I like that steel guitar.

So I exported it as a midi file and opened it in my Daw. The steel guitar was missing because it was a real track, audio. I exported as a stem and dropped it into the project.

Trouble with the real tracks is they play like they are a bit drunk. But Heres the reason why I am telling the story. I opened it in Melodyne and fixed the mistakes.
In other words I think what I did is exactly what this new plugin does. So I actually already own the tools.

Melodyne full version is also not cheap but I now have the full version by upgrading each year on Black Friday. I started with the included version from Sonar.

I might try the demo out of curiosity and be looking for instruments I can’t play like fiddle or tuba!

That's really interesting - yes, I've had BIAB since Day 1 and update it every few years - the last update I did was the 2025 edition at the beginning of last year. Yes, it is a bit like an arranger keyboard but it is possible to do some really good stuff with it. I think it's quite old-fashioned, and I wonder how long it'll survive in the face of the AI tools now emerging, but I do have a soft spot for it!

Yes I wonder if anyone under the age of 50 uses it. Possibly under 60!.
It’s come a long way but it seems the biggest change is the real tracks.
There’s a Free program called Jjazz that is very good too. It’s only uses the sfontzo? Player I think.

I think Real Tracks came out about 10 years ago. Too much country, easy listening, jazz and big band type stuff for me, but they are very high quality and the musicians are identified, (for the most part) which is cool.

I finally got my hands on this. You get the free version Essential but you have to open a brand new account which is a different web page from Melodyne.
Pretty straight forward to install.
No sign of it in Studio pro even though I set it up to automatic plug in scan? but it worked fine in Sonar as both ARA and a VST3.
The free demo is totally useless to me as it is very limited in loops. I can't think of how I would use any of them.
Doesn't even sound as good as in the videos. So skip it unless you want to spend the big bucks and even then you might not find what you like.
Good concept, just doesn't come across as well as it did in the videos in real life. Yet another pile of loops.

Yeah, because Studio One only ever served the non-musical among us!

 🤦‍♂️

Hi just an fyi this is what I did to install it
Set up account at tonalics
Go into fender account, look under my products
Obtain the tonalics redemption code
Enter the redemption code into my tonalics account
Start up fender studio pro, and enter tonalics login info one time

I have not yet tried out tonalics. Thanks

I spent a bit of time with Tonalic yesterday. The Essentials version that we get for free is a perpetual licence and includes just guitar and just from one of their artists but the content is royalty free. The really neat thing is that is incorporated into the SP browser so auditioning and experimenting is really, really slick.

The difference between this and normal loops and stuff like UJAM is that if you drag a phrase into the timeline and extend it across several bars and chord changes the phrasing will be tweaked slightly so it is not just the same loop pitched up and down. I have to say that the tweaking often seems quite subtle and I'm not sure anyone would notice in the context of a full mix but it's a nice idea.

I'm not one for subscriptions so I'll neve upgrade from the free version but a few of those phrases might find their way into a song or two.

Mods, can I suggest adding Tonalic to the title of this thread.

Yes the title is very wrong. It’s not Melodyne and it’s not a guitar plugin as a whole. The full version includes bass and drums.
One would expect that in the future more useful instruments would be added like fiddle, brass, pedal steel etc.
There was nothing in the free collection that any guitar player couldn’t have played themselves.
It’s very mechanical sounding to me. I guess they edited the crap out of it in Melodyne.

As I said the concept is great but seems pretty expensive to actually use it. This free version is I guess just a simple demo. It’s like using a drum machine with 3 patterns.
