The music director of the upcoming film gave me permission to post this mockup as long as I didn't use any of their scenes, so here is a sample of what I do.

I'd bet it works really well with the visuals. It sounds like it totally avoids the twin mistakes of doing too much and overshadowing the visuals, or doing too little and not giving the proper support.
Also I could hear what sounded like the connective tissue between different sections, like when the solo cello came in after the big drum hit and introduced the entrance of the staccato strings...and these added to a reprise of the sustained strings at the beginning, and the combination led up to the climax.
