Life Itself

This is one of the first songs I made in Studio One a few years ago called "Life Itself". I categorized as "rock", although some would say it's probably more "pop". I did, however, try to incorporate some elements from rockabilly (like the guitar solo and walking bass section in the middle, as well as the open hi-hat being "brushed").

The lyrics talk about how life can be good despite all bad things and does not need us to do any special thing to be that way, it just is. I also incorporated some lines from the book Hopscotch (Rayuela) by Argentinian writer Julio Cortázar, which I love.

I made the video with royalty free stock footage on... Windows' Photos App! :p

Now, a bit more details on the production/recording, which happened in a bedroom:
- I recorded this with an NT1A, I didn't have any fancier mic at the time (now I do!) with a bit of Fat Channel and stock reverb
- The acoustic guitar is a Taylor GS Mini and the electric guitar an Ibanez Artcore using Ampire as effects
- I played the drums on a Kat KT-1, triggering the (free) VST Drummica
- The bass I used was an old Squier J-bass with flat wounds so make it sound (at least that was my idea) more like a double bass
- I recorded and mixed this on Studio One 3... Artist! (I remember saving to buy the "add-on" to use 3rd party VSTs)
- I "mastered" this myself using the awesome (and free) Limiter No 6 by Vlad :)

What I like about this tune is that, even if today I have way fancier gear and hopefully more skills playing those instruments, producing, and mixing, this song still sounds great (to me, at least) and has its own soul. As if it knew what it wanted to be from the beginning.

Anyway, I hope you like it. Looking forward to your comments!

What a great track! Fun to read the production process, and knowing it's a bedroom production! I like the vibe and joy this song is emanating.
